Cooking with Natural Foods. Favorite Fats and Oils. December 17, 2011. 124; 123 Comments. A couple things. There are a number of approaches people take when making gougères. I opt for the path resulting in the least amount of dishes and devices to wash after. Meaning, a one-pan method, stirring by hand. I don't bother with a mixer. And I push dollops of the dough onto parchment lined baking sheets from a spoon rather than piping from a bag. 2/3 cup / 160 ml beer / ale OR water. 1/3 cup / 80 ml milk.

Walking Lake Washington « Tea & Cookies
http://www.teaandcookiesblog.com/2012/07/walking-lake-washington.html
July 19, 2012. Another time we wandered North Seattle and Ballard. This visit, we went south. We fueled up at Columbia City Bakery. Well-fueled, we strolled down the tree-lined main street of Columbia City and started up the hill that would lead us out of the neighborhood, passing charming houses and flowering yards. This is an excellent time to be wandering Seattle. Everyone’s gardens are in full bloom. Before we knew it we were down at Seward Park, where our walk along the lake officially began. Fr...

Butternut Squash Soup with Ginger | Dana Treat – Treat Yourself
http://danatreat.com/2011/11/butternut-squash-soup-with-ginger
Butternut Squash Soup with Ginger. November 23, 2011. On Saturday, I braved a suburban mall. I had a birthday present to buy for a sweet niece who is turning six and, like many six year olds, she is obsessed with American Girl. I have boys so I know very little about American Girl, but I have heard stories of this mythical place where there is a hair salon and even a hospital – for dolls. I wish I could have seen my own face when I walked in to that store. I have four tips for you. Like most soups, this ...

How To Make a Sourdough Starter « Tea & Cookies
http://www.teaandcookiesblog.com/2012/01/how-to-make-a-sourdough-starter.html
January 23, 2012. How To Make a Sourdough Starter. Okay, people. Let’s do this thing. Sourdough starter or bust! As I wrote in my last post. Sourdough bread gets its tang and lift from a starter of flour and water that provides a host for wild yeast and beneficial bacteria. First off: it turns out that we aren’t so much capturing wild yeast in the air. Maybe a little, but most of the yeast is already present in the flour. Because of this, it is recommended that you begin your starter with rye or ...So, f...

What’s Blooming « Tea & Cookies

February 15, 2015. One of the most lovely parts of working on this book I’ve been writing. One of the blogs I have been following, May Dreams Gardens. Each month where people share what is blooming in their garden. We’re having a very early spring here in Seattle, so I thought I might show you what is going on in the garden at Orchard House. Also, they turn brown and fall off and look like corpses. Corpse flowers. What do they say about learning to accept the things you can’t change? This is also excitin...

It's all about nurturing my family, my garden and myself. January 04, 2013. Well, that was a funny old Christmas. Lovely. But over so quickly. There was a fair bit of illness but Im glad, in a way, that it happened over the festive hols when we had no obligation to be anywhere (well, we did but cancelled). Special - but this time Im one of them. Fickle is my middle name. And Hypocrite. So, in the spirit of forgetting, heres what I would like to do in the home and garden this year (studying allowing):.

Six | Dana Treat – Treat Yourself
http://danatreat.com/2010/12/six
December 22, 2010. On November 28th, Graham turned six. Six? It seems that just in the last six months or so, he has shot up and started looking like a bona fide boy. His build is exactly like that of my brothers who are 6’4″ and 6’1″ and slim. He looks less like the baby he was and more like the boy he will become. I’m not sure I’m ready for that. (See his right ear? How it sticks out just a bit? My brother Michael has been saying, since he was a baby, that girls will go crazy over that ear.). 8221; onc...
