Murph Birder

Saturday, October 15, 2016. Rufous Hummingbird in Downer's Grove, IL. Bob's backyard was lovely and outstanding for wildlife. While we were there, Carrie saw a Coyote and a deer in his yard, and among the birds we saw or heard were Sharp-shinned Hawk, Red-breasted Nuthatch, and Cedar Waxwing. And I followed it to the back of the yard, where I took this photo showing its rufous tail. Excited to finally see this intermediate plumaged Rufous hummingbird, which was a lifer for Carrie and a state bird for me,...

Murph Birder: July 2014

http://murphbirder.blogspot.com/2014_07_01_archive.html

Sunday, July 27, 2014. Yellow-crowned Night-heron and Black-crowned Night-heron at Kaufman Lake in Champaign, IL. Carrie and I were looking at the sleepy Yellow-crowned Night-heron right where Ted Hartzler said it would be. Yellow-crowned looked up at Black-crowned, but Black-crowned ignored Yellow-crowned. Yellow-crowned turned and they were both standing in the same direction. Not only did I see the Willet. I also saw this Snow Goose. Links to this post. Saturday, July 19, 2014. Murph Birder: February 2015

http://murphbirder.blogspot.com/2015_02_01_archive.html

Saturday, February 28, 2015. Trumpeter Swans and Bald Eagles in McLean County. After work on Friday, February 28, I stopped by Evergreen Lake to see a pair of Trumpeter Swans that Jeanna Powell had reported seeing there. Not only were the swans by the water pump house. There were also several Redheads, Common Mergansers, Common Goldeneyes, and a Ring-necked Duck. A pair of Bald Eagles also flew in and landed on the ice. Written and published on March 15, 2015. Links to this post. This look alike 1st Cycl...

Murph Birder: January 2015

http://murphbirder.blogspot.com/2015_01_01_archive.html

Saturday, January 31, 2015. Red Crossbills at Sand Ridge State Forest. I motioned for Carrie and Mike to join me. Then several others popped up. There were at least two males and three females. Tony Ward and Colin Dobson drove up after the crossbills flew back further back into the woods and told us that they had seen more of them there today. Red Crossbill was a lifer for Carrie, and it was only the second time that I had seen them. Links to this post. Saturday, January 17, 2015. On January 17, I went t...

Murph Birder: Blue Grosbeak in Woodford County, IL

http://murphbirder.blogspot.com/2015/07/blue-grosbeak-in-woodford-county-il.html

Sunday, July 12, 2015. Blue Grosbeak in Woodford County, IL. While on my way to find the grosbeak, I photographed an Eastern Kingbird and an American Kestrel near the South end of the lake in McLean County. Just before I found the Blue Grosbeak, I photographed this young Eastern Bluebird in Woodford County. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). View my complete profile. Mobile Marketing Magazine

The online magazine dedicated to Mobile Marketing. April 30, 2010. Out With the Old. As the last post before a Bank Holiday weekend, I’d normally use this one to tell you that this is it for a few days, because on Monday I’ll be on a beach somewhere with my suncream, and my kagool. And indeed I will, so it will be Tuesday before we are back slaving over a hot keyboard bringing you all the latest news. . Because of the vagaries of DNS propagation, you may see the new site minutes after we switch the domai...

Murph's Adventures in Nutrition. Running on Empty, instead of Ketones. I’ve heard anecdotally that one drawback of low carb diets is low energy level in workouts. Murph has not experienced that. I suspect the difference may be running on ketones versus running out of glucose. Too much protein might be the culprit for my low energy friends. We’ll tackle science in simple terms, so even Murph can understand. What’s Murph eating? This entry was posted in Uncategorized. October 1, 2014. Which is more true?
