It seems to be the nature of living that what we most want never comes when we want it and when we have given up, it appears in unexpected ways. This poem is not about rain but about that elusive thing we all seem to be searching for that explains why we are here. It is uncooperative, does not obey our prayers, but often brings us unexpected gifts of understanding. Our parched landscapes crave. Our books and wilted gardens.
