doubleweave! | The Museum of Exploration
https://museumofexploration.wordpress.com/2015/05/17/doubleweave
The Museum of Exploration. On May 17, 2015. I’m still waiting on the book that should tell me how to do super huge doubleweave things (it’s out of print and hard to find without spending a lot). I got bored and decided to follow a less detailed pattern (as in, it gives you the threadings and doesn’t give any help beyond that). It’s the first pattern I’ve done from this book. All the colours mostly so it’s easier to see where each thread is going, and also because the weft is really lovely soft meri...
weaving constituencies | The Museum of Exploration
https://museumofexploration.wordpress.com/2015/05/09/weaving-constituencies
The Museum of Exploration. On May 9, 2015. I’m still maintaining that staying awake all of Thursday night was a good (if depressing) idea. (And I’m actually old enough to vote now, so that makes things a bit more interesting). Someone was cross-stitching. The declarations as they came in. This is Edinburgh East (the constituency where I live, and where the art school is). Along the top/warp is total votes colour coordinated by party (it reflects back on itself). Not to scale! 2015 | The Museum of Exploration
https://museumofexploration.wordpress.com/2015
The Museum of Exploration. Archive for 2015 Yearly archive page. First weavings of the semester / the high mill. Edinburgh College of Art. On October 15, 2015. I’ve never seen so many looms in once place. AND SO MUCH YARN. I think I was far more excited than any of the students – we had a machine knitting workshop yesterday, hence the sudden buying of one. It’s super amazing. I can’t afford a loom that uses them, but I can knit with them! Anyway. Pictures from yesterday, then weaving. Click to share on P...
Freedom… But not really. | The Museum of Exploration
https://museumofexploration.wordpress.com/2015/05/05/freedom-but-not-really
The Museum of Exploration. Edinburgh college of art. Freedom But not really. Edinburgh College of Art. On May 5, 2015. We’re done for the year. That’s very, very scary. Much has happened. I’ve shown work (in two places simultaneously), almost caused serious injury weaving a lot in very little time and I don’t know what else. It now looks like this. If it was comfy I’d use it as a cushion, but it’s pretty dense cotton. So it’s just a thing on the bookshelf of things. This is the last thing I did, it’...
Words | The Museum of Exploration
https://museumofexploration.wordpress.com/words
The Museum of Exploration. Collected, but not mine. They’re sad and lonely just being sat in my sketchbooks. I’ve tried to link as many as possible to wherever I found them, initials are for things I’ve (over)heard or things that have been written to me, although some I never knew the person to start with or I’ve forgotten…. 8220;She told me I could draw. I said I can’t draw, and she said you can no more not draw than you cannot draw breath.”. John Hegley, Dog. Where is our body? Where is our space?

Sunday, May 25. Beatrice Carlson Miller 1927-2014. So, it's been one month since my mother died. She'd been sick for a long time but still at the end, we were all surprised how it went faster than expected. She was on her own path, clearly. This was in March, Mom was fading but still present to some degree. She had very loving carers. This was the day before she died. Pall bearers of all sizes. It was the most beautiful spring day imaginable. Many kind friends brought us food which helped so much. Arts a...

Thursday, August 29. In Graduate school, that is. After taking a year off mid-program due to complications following surgery for an injury. I wasn't really sure how I would feel upon "re-entry" but the moment I walked into my beautifully minimalist light-filled studio I was filled with joy! Interestingly, I've been looking into the early works of painter Max Beckmann. And I've been mesmerized by this particular image. Max Beckmann "Self-Portrait in Florence" 1907. Hamburg Kunsthalle, Hamburg, Germany.

Saturday, November 30. Henry came home from his boarding school the previous Saturday for a full week of Thanksgiving vacation. We started his break off by going to the Astrid Bowlby exhibition and Gallery Talk at Gallery Joe last Saturday night:. It was a packed house. Henry attended his first art opening on his ONE MONTH birthday, and it has just gone on from there, so it's an atmosphere he is comfortable with and also seems to naturally enjoy, at least for short periods of time. Wednesday, November 27.
Genre Cookshop: Visiting my Parents
http://genrecookshop.blogspot.com/2014/04/visiting-my-parents.html
Saturday, April 12. Paul and I drove up to CT to see my parents today. Mom was put on hospice care. We stopped and picked up Dad first. Dad asked me to bring him toothpaste. He couldn't recall the kind he liked so Paul got him a variety. Saw this old photo of my parents in my Dad's apartment. Mom was asleep and slept heavily throughout our entire visit. Dad was being very brave. Even though Mom was sleeping we got some snuggling in. Life flows to death as rivers to the sea /. Sonia a. mascaro. The Genre ...
