Lent and the resurrection. I say bring on Lent. Lent is good for me. As much as I sometimes dread the sacrifice (which means it is good for me too) and the solemn nature of this season, I love that it reminds me that on Sundays we celebrate the resurrection! Isn’t it funny that we find it so easy to make our worship times about so many other things so often? Literally whatever my brain is spitting out at this moment. 10th Anniversary Facebook Posts. Sermon June 26, 2011. On fill the boot. On fill the boot.

June 27, 2010 – Sermon | musings

https://musingsandnothingmore.wordpress.com/2011/03/27/june-27-2010-sermon

June 27, 2010 – Sermon. June 27, 2010. Ø 1 Kings 19:15-16, 19-21. Ø Galatians 5:1, 13-25. Thus the paradox Is it both tough and easy? Probably, but if so, then how. Is it tough and how is it easy? That’s kinda the question I think our texts deal with and so that’s what we will wrestle with as well. Where is discipline required and where does it bring or give freedom? It’s like the person who wants to quit smoking, so they go out to smoke their last pack before quitting. How often does that work? Their ac...

Today’s Sermon – March 27, 2011 | musings

https://musingsandnothingmore.wordpress.com/2011/03/27/todays-sermon-march-27-2011

Today’s Sermon – March 27, 2011. So we’re all sinners, standing in need of the grace of God. Why is this important to us this morning? But this creates a sense of tension doesn’t it? I mean if we just welcome and accept everyone, won’t we water down the gene pool? Won’t we compromise the integrity of the gospel if we start letting sinners be a part of what we’re doing? Or be a greeter? Or design our website, operate the sound board, or take our youth group hiking? Is it blanket acceptance? You don’t beco...

December 5, 2010 – Sermon (Advent 2) | musings

https://musingsandnothingmore.wordpress.com/2011/03/27/december-5-2010-sermon-advent-2

December 5, 2010 – Sermon (Advent 2). Psalm 72:1-7, 18-19. And that we’ll do it again next year just like we did last year? Sometimes it feels like watching a movie I’ve seen 20 times before. The suspense just isn’t the same when you know what’s coming. But that’s where I my thinking tends to go wrong for sure. Too often, I’m waiting for the wrong thing. I’m waiting for December 25. A shoot will come up from the stump of Jesse; from his roots a branch will bear fruit. The Spirit of the Lord will rest...

All posts by Phil. Amazing wife. Three great kids. Love God. Love my church. Love the Cubs, the great outdoors and good music. 10th Anniversary Facebook Posts. In the spirit of random Facebook posts associated with numbers and facts, I will post ten facts or stories about the past decade. Side note: Christmas reminds me of this fact every year: stockings are a real problem. I have NO INTEREST in buying a bunch of little things that will fit in a stocking I’d rather spend a few hundred bucks on someth...

LGBTQ | I'm Going to Write This Down... Read At Your Own Risk

https://jarrettmylander.wordpress.com/2011/02/09/lgbtq

I'm Going to Write This Down… Read At Your Own Risk. My thoughts on life, work, international economic development, or whatever else I feel like writing about. February 9, 2011. Recently the student newspaper at Seattle Pacific University, my former school, released this article. The SPU article has been picked up by The Stranger, Seattle’s beloved, very left-oriented and barely censored weekly newspaper. In a quick and very likely deserved bash, this blog. On The Falcon’s website, I commented:. And I&#8...

I'm Going to Write This Down… Read At Your Own Risk. My thoughts on life, work, international economic development, or whatever else I feel like writing about. December 8, 2010. I am frustrated. Really, really frustrated. I don’t mind being insulted by some idiot who likes to get in fights. I don’t mind getting laughed at for not being trendy or wearing the right clothes. These things are meaningless to me. I. Get upset, however, when my character is questioned. Bearing with one another and, if one has a...

Nebraska Paints Seattle Red. September 21, 2010. What a great, great weekend. For all of you UDub fans, I’m sorry. I will rub it in your faces, even though I like you and your school a lot. Musings and Observations

Thursday, August 1, 2013. Would it matter if Homosexuality was a choice? People make the argument arguing for gay rights that homosexuality isn't a choice. There are some clever ways to address this point. If you base all of your morality from religious texts written greater than 1500 years ago then you are inclined to think of homosexuality as immoral or as an 'abomination'. I've written previously that not everyone who believes this is a bigot (although many bigots pretend to be christian to avoid ...
