Musings from the sofa. Does what it says on the tin. The reading that might come after…. The reading that went before. 8211; John Coates. This was a lovely, gentle re-read to ease me back into actually using my brain. Along with Maureen Lipman, who wrote the introduction, I am hopeful that Persephone will bring more of Coates’ work back into print. The Old Wives’ Tale. 8211; Laurence Sterne. I liked the way the before the ‘flu and after the ‘flu stories joined together. Slowly down the Ganges. During the...

In which I mourn apostrophes | Musings from the sofa

https://musingsfromthesofa.wordpress.com/2014/03/31/in-which-i-mourn-apostrophes

Musings from the sofa. Does what it says on the tin. The reading that might come after…. The reading that went before. In which I mourn apostrophes. To be fair (or generous, as I like to think of it), once I’d forced myself past the list of dubious academic achievements, most of the CVs weren’t that bad. If anything, this adds to my concern. Why can’t these relatively intelligent, ostensibly decently educated people spot such a basic mistake? This entry was posted in Things I don't understand. The law of...

Musings from the sofa. Does what it says on the tin. The reading that might come after…. The reading that went before. And also from Zoesmom. I’m not tagging anyone but play along if you want to. It’s always good to have a meme in reserve for those days when you are lacking in inspiration. A – An advantage you have – being educated, and in the US, being English, and in business, not feeling the need to please everyone so that I don’t have a problem saying ‘No’. D – Dad’s name – Who? Sam's blog from Oz. Newer posts →. 6 March, 2016. And D’Lacey’s. I went back to the nineteenth century with Dickens. David Copperfield was written in serial form, but, unlike D’Lacey’s ‘organic’ plots, the whole story is well planned from start to finish. Several of the characters are cartoonish. Nevertheless, I found the novel engrossing right from the first page where we read that baby David was born in his caul, plus the superstitions held about this event. David arrives at Miss Trottwood’s house.

I worked at a friend's studio a couple of days this week, and it always throws me off course when I have to leave the house for work. It always amazes me that:. A) People do this ALL THE TIME. And. B) I used to be one of those people (seriously, you guys. How on earth did I used to be so pulled together? OK, not SO pulled together, but enough that my kids and I got where we needed to be, with what we needed for the day- I'm talking to you, LUNCH- and ON TIME). I know, who knew? traciedesigns*: January Second

http://traciedesigns.blogspot.com/2014/01/january-second.html

Last year I made no New Year's resolutions. Instead I opted for a birthday resolution- in October- to start running. Several 5K's, a relay race and a half marathon, I think we can check that as a resolution fulfilled. This year I was a little busy and feeling uncreative when my birthday rolled around, so I didn't make any birthday resolutions. Which is a shame, because I feel like last year's worked out so well. OK, so I need these shoes. Like, NEED these shoes. Maybe I'm not being clear: I need these shoes like I need Diet Coke. Or water. Or oxygen. I loved them at first glance, and I love them even more now that I know the bow is detachable (because sometimes I'm not really in a bows-on-my-shoes place). I think I need to save up some of my temp job pennies and buy myself these shoes. After all, my life kind of depends on it. Links to this post. Oh lookie who decided to blog today! traciedesigns*: January 2014

http://traciedesigns.blogspot.com/2014_01_01_archive.html

This week was wonderful, in that we were almost all back where we belong (with the exception of the teenager, who goes back to school tomorrow), and the longest ever, because, well, we were all back where we belong. School, work and activities consumed our days, and before I knew it, it was 5:37 on Friday afternoon and I hadn't blogged a lick. Seriously. I'm so excited about it. Until then, happy weekend! Our Wonderful Great Big Garden: Beach time

http://gardenersworld.blogspot.com/2010/01/beach-time.html

Our Wonderful Great Big Garden. Wednesday, 6 January 2010. We have taken turns going on snorkelling trips since Christmas and will do a few more before we leave. We prefer to find an island with good coral just off the beach but these are more remote places that don't have the back-up or shops we need with Kaya. Christmas was fun despite the sickness and Kaya loved having things to open and glittery decorations to look at. She now knows the word 'balloon'! We spent NYE outside our bungalow, under the ful...

Our Wonderful Great Big Garden. Wednesday, 23 December 2009. Each night the beach becomes a mini-festival as each resort or bar lights up colourful lanterns, plays music and serves cocktails – best downed at sunset during 100B happy hour. We should be here for a few more days or a couple more weeks and are each taking turns to go on a snorkelling trip to nearby uninhabited islands of pristine coral before the New Year. Our Wonderful Great Big Garden: Back in Chiang Rai

Our Wonderful Great Big Garden. Tuesday, 8 December 2009. Back in Chiang Rai. We're back in CR after a fantastic week at the My Dream. Guesthouse in Khaew Waaw Dam, a small Karen tribal village alongside the Mae Kok river and about 25km out of town. I found Chiang Rai hotels. Quiet and peaceful but what you have written is very interesting. Thanks, I will try it out. 16 June 2010 at 02:55. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). View my complete profile.
