One Moment at a Time . . . musings about life, history, faith and art

MLIS Thesis: Uncover the Past. Monday, November 14, 2016. Last night, a group of us had the privilege of watching a short video about pain and lament produced by one of the women at our church. The purpose, she said, was to help us know how to relate to others as they lament various sorrows in life, and to help us know how to share our own story. Does this make my pain less important? One Moment at a Time . . . musings about life, history, faith and art: April 2013

http://musingsinthemoments.blogspot.com/2013_04_01_archive.html

MLIS Thesis: Uncover the Past. Monday, April 29, 2013. Garden Lessons: How Fragile We Are. I am back from my writing-blog hiatus. It'll be a slow journey, but here's to writing again:. This Spring I have decided to start a garden. My yard space is fairly limited, and there is not a great deal of sunlight along the side of the apartment. I know that I am going to have to be very intentional about where I place my planter boxes and sow my seeds. When I started my seedlings at the beginning of April. Maybe ...

MLIS Thesis: Uncover the Past. Thursday, July 31, 2014. Silence Makes Us Knock". And recently I’ve been thinking about God’s timing. I am one year into my newest educational endeavor (something I thought would never happen! In thinking about all this (for probably the millionth time), I stumbled upon an article entitled “When God Seems Silent. There’s a quote floating around Pinterest that goes something like this: “If you’re waiting for God to open the door, praise Him in the hallway&#...Timing, and for...

One Moment at a Time . . . musings about life, history, faith and art: This is What Vulnerability Looks Like

http://musingsinthemoments.blogspot.com/2016/10/this-is-what-vulnerability-looks-like.html

MLIS Thesis: Uncover the Past. Sunday, October 2, 2016. This is What Vulnerability Looks Like. One of my favorite things about Sunday evenings is donning my apron, laying out all my ingredients, and making soup or stew for the coming week. It is a ritual that I prepare for with research and imagination. It is a creative endeavor with a practical outcome. It both excites and calms me. And it is something that I enjoy doing alone. This I know: I am. Good at being alone. I am not. Good at being lonely.

http://musingsinthemoments.blogspot.com/2016/10/pain-and-grace.html

MLIS Thesis: Uncover the Past. Wednesday, October 12, 2016. I feel like I am on the cusp of learning something. That this hard thing called life, is one big exercise in teaching me something vital about obedience and faith, love, hope, and peace. What would it look like for me to take steps of faith like that? In what area of my life is God calling me to obedience? Am I living in the freedom of Christ? Resignation for acceptance through a prayer of relinquishment. In her book, Beyond Ourselves. Life Is Cosmic: May 2013

http://lifeiscosmic.blogspot.com/2013_05_01_archive.html

Monday, May 13, 2013. The BabyGirl is a major Daddy's girl. And understandably so, he is a world-class Daddy. I happen to love him quite a bit myself, so I'm not surprised that she thinks he is great too. Sometimes, however, i want to tell her, "Back off; he's mine! I had him first! She seems to think that his sole purpose in life is to spend every waking moment with her. This doesn't always work for him. Or for me. Sometimes there isn't enough of him to go around. To the tune of Frere Jacques). No In th...

Thursday, August 27, 2015. The First Day of the Rest of Your Life. She had been scared about it for quite some time. She mentioned on several occasions that she didn't want to go; she wanted to learn at home like her friend Addy. She declared immediately, "NO! I'll grab onto you and scream! As the day of reckoning drew painfully close, we focused on how to seek God in the midst of fear. Naturally, the famous Joshua 1:9 was at the forefront:. Have I not commanded you? The factory settings for a standard-issue baby take up quite a lot of time, and then when you throw in add-ons like personality, medical issues, sleep regressions, growth spurts, etc, it can really drive up the total pretty fast. We were given the Super Deluxe Primo Edition baby when it comes to how much time her care requires.

Thursday, August 11, 2016. Celebrating a Difficult Kindergarten Year. You may recall that Sunny had a great deal of trepidation on her first day of kindergarten. Thanks to the encouragement and prayers of family members, she bravely went through with it. What we didn't know on that first day was that the same Bible verse of "be strong and courageous" as well as the motivation of "you can do this! Would be required not just on the first day, but throughout the entire year. For a couple of weeks in May/Jun...

Life Is Cosmic: October 2013

http://lifeiscosmic.blogspot.com/2013_10_01_archive.html

Wednesday, October 16, 2013. I'm here to tell you that all the rumors about 3-year-olds are true. It's common knowledge these days that "three is the new two," but until you experience it personally, you don't know what you are in for. Three started out with a bang around here. The birthday candles had barely cooled off when night terrors threw our whole household into crisis. From there, it snowballed. Everything inside me withered. Please don't ask me that question right now. I love it all! Our church ...

Life Is Cosmic: September 2013

http://lifeiscosmic.blogspot.com/2013_09_01_archive.html

Thursday, September 5, 2013. When Jesus had again crossed over by boat to the other side of the lake,. A large crowd gathered around him while he was by the lake. Then one of the synagogue leaders,. Named Jairus, came, and when he saw Jesus, he fell at his feet. He pleaded earnestly with him, “My little daughter is dying. Please come and put your hands on. Her so that she will be healed and live.”. So Jesus went with him. . . . When they came to the home of the synagogue leader,. But they laughed at him.

Musings in the Blogosphere. Wednesday, January 26, 2005. United States Holocaust Memorial Museum. While in Your Nation's Capital last week for the Inauguration, Val and I visited the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum. Musings in the Key of D. Just trying to keep it all together. April 26, 2015. Hitting the Nail on the Head. As I was running through my news feed on Facebook today I came across this open letter. I have cleaned up some of the language and apologize if what I left offends anyone. It is, however very truthful. You don’t know me, but I know you. At night, however, when the stillness falls upon your house, the cracks in the walls of your “perfect” life can be seen. You wait in bed alone. Finally, something i...

Musings in the æther

Musings in the æther. Monday, 1 June 2015. It takes two to tango, two hands to clap - unless you are a Zen master. And it takes two to conduct a dialogue. I started the car and we made our way down the narrow spiral ramp down the car park in silence, negotiating the curves with practiced ease. While we waited at the first lights, I sighed - Its not like you are a real person. There was a pause and he said - You are talking to me. And you seem to think I am a he. You can read my thoughts, now? Remember th...
