Musings on Penang: April 2012
http://musingsonpenang.blogspot.com/2012_04_01_archive.html
My life in Penang as a recent immigrant. Thursday, April 19, 2012. Gone, but not forgotten, I hope! The gal who writes this fabulous blog has gone on vacation for six weeks! What are we going to do in her absence? Gee, I dunno. We'll just have to muddle through somehow. She did say she'd try to post some blogs while she's away. Yeah, but they're not usually very good 'cuz she doesn't know how to post photos remotely. Hey, that's a shame. Somebody ought to teach her. It's probably quite easy. The whole fa...

My life in Penang as a recent immigrant. Saturday, September 29, 2012. They're Great, and That's No Lie-on! Chinese Lion - Gaudy and Athletic. One thing about Chinese lions is they're NOT subtle or understated in any way. How about this pink and purple one? Now compare it to this very traditional Japanese one. There's a world of difference. They both serve different purposes, so it's not fair to compare them. But t. Practicing the Upright Move. Actually doing the Upright Move. Friday, September 28, 2012.
Musings on Penang: Back in Colorful Penang

My life in Penang as a recent immigrant. Wednesday, August 21, 2013. Back in Colorful Penang. Mall decs for Hari Raya. As always, I was transfixed by the riot of color that Penang boasts in every aspect of life, no matter how mundane. Gorgeous tropical flowers are a given, of course. I believe "riotous" would be the appropriate word to describe these, whatever they are. What lucky folks live here, I wonder? Even the most ordinary things in Penang are unintentionally colorful, like these LPG canisters.

My life in Penang as a recent immigrant. Saturday, February 4, 2012. The Sacred Cows of Kelawai Road. Near our place there's a very busy street called Kelawai Road. It's the site of a massive construction project featuring two 43-story towers and a bunch of "lifestyle retail outlets." But a mere half a block away, there's a scene so pastoral, you'd think you were out in the countryside. Hi Are these your cows? Yes, all of them. We counted together and determined that there were. Thirty. Over there. I ask...

My life in Penang as a recent immigrant. Wednesday, February 27, 2013. The Pope and I. The restored heritage house I toured. Imagine cooking for a household on this original stove! Since one of the owners is a chef, the couple has turned. The original cooking area into a well-equipped test kitchen, from which Chef does a TV cooking program called "Chalk and Cheese.". Which I just watched on TV an hour or so ago.) They've preserved the original cooking station - I don't dare call it a "stove" - and he...

My life in Penang as a recent immigrant. Saturday, September 7, 2013. Kitchen floor that I damaged myself. What do these two have in common? Having experienced both in the past two weeks, I know the answer to thisquestion. They're both forms of self-inflicted torture! How are they alike? Be made and it was now or never! Well, it wasn't quite as bad as having two knee replacements at the same time, but it was close. There wasn't much physical. Pain after the toe operation. But the kitchen floor! With shee...
