Bridget of Arabia: Spring 2015 repertoire, ranked
http://myadventuresintucson.blogspot.com/2015/05/spring-2015-repertoire-ranked.html
Saturday, May 30, 2015. Spring 2015 repertoire, ranked. This semester for my accompanist job, I learned 27 pieces. Twenty-seven! Tomorrow is Juries, where each of the seven applied voice students sings two songs for a panel of professors. One song is chosen by the student; the other is selected by the panel. So tomorrow I will be bringing ALL THE MUSIC with me and be ready to play whatever. Will There Really Be a Morning. Don't Rain on My Parade. Sure on this Shining Night. Once I got past the hate.
Bridget of Arabia: May 2015
http://myadventuresintucson.blogspot.com/2015_05_01_archive.html
Sunday, May 31, 2015. My rating: 5 of 5 stars. Second reading 30 April 2015. Not as good as I expected the second time around. The implausibilities were so much more.implausible. I'd probably give it four stars now, but as a first-time read, five stars still stands. A Kim Jong-Il Production: The Extraordinary True Story of a Kidnapped Filmmaker, His Star Actress, and a Young Dictator's Rise to Power. My rating: 4 of 5 stars. North Korea continues to just be the worst, though. An Ember in the Ashes. Some ...
Bridget of Arabia: February 2015
http://myadventuresintucson.blogspot.com/2015_02_01_archive.html
Saturday, February 28, 2015. The Romanov Sisters: The Lost Lives of the Daughters of Nicholas and Alexandra. My rating: 5 of 5 stars. Heartbreaking. I have read my share of Romanov books, most notably Nicholas and Alexandra. But Rappaport has stripped away the politics and posturing and supporting characters and left us with a tender portrait of a loving family. She never loses the father/mother/daughters/son thread, but carries it all the way through to the family's bitter end. My rating: 3 of 5 stars.
Bridget of Arabia: Back in the SAR (Syrian Arab Republic)
http://myadventuresintucson.blogspot.com/2010/05/back-in-sar-syrian-arab-republic.html
Sunday, May 23, 2010. Back in the SAR (Syrian Arab Republic). I apologize in advance for any formatting wonkiness and I suspect that you might not be able to see the pictures, which is a crying shame. It's hard to blog without being able to see what I'm doing. I'll fix it when I can.). But there's ease, and then there's quality. And the quality here is very, very good. It's great to be back. I can see your pictures and my Syrian friend (who is in Germany now) and I read it together just now on Skype.
Bridget of Arabia: Concerts this week and last
http://myadventuresintucson.blogspot.com/2015/05/concerts-this-week-and-last.html
Monday, May 18, 2015. Concerts this week and last. The university choir/voice concerts were last week! I wasn't nearly as nervous as last semester, though Amor. In particular was a battle. I won two of the nights (opening and closing nights), but I think it bested me the middle night. Oh well. Jeremy was in the audience that night and he said he couldn't even tell I made mistakes. Good husband. On closing night, the students gave flowers to the director, me - and Magdalena! Her own mini bouquet! We've be...

My Adventures in Syria: Seen on the Syrian highway
http://bridgetpalmer.blogspot.com/2007/06/seen-on-syrian-highway.html
My Adventures in Syria. On Being the American Wife of a Fulbright Scholar in Damascus. Saturday, June 23, 2007. Seen on the Syrian highway. I made a special goal on our most recent trip to Syria to capture some images of strange loads seen on the Syrian highways. I've said before that everything in Syria is a surprise, and believe me, their vehicular traffic is no exception. Who says you need a U-Haul truck when you're moving? This is a version of the truly ubiquitous Suzuki truck I mentioned earlier....

My Adventures in Syria. On Being the American Wife of a Fulbright Scholar in Damascus. Tuesday, June 12, 2007. Bashar and Hafez around town, some more. In response to a few of the comments from the. Plus, they're fun. Of the regime for someone to buy one. Politics (mostly) aside, I bring you a few more pictures from around Syria. This poster is hanging next to the entrance to the Souq al-Hamadiyye, not far from the statue of Salah ad-Din. It says, "God will protect Syria.". This is actually a gorgeous mu...

My Adventures in Syria. On Being the American Wife of a Fulbright Scholar in Damascus. Thursday, June 14, 2007. Jesr ar-Rais: The Transportation Underbelly of Damascus. I have a love/hate relationship with Jesr ar-Rais (The President's Bridge). On the other hand, Jesr ar-Rais is like a neverending shabaab. There's the pile of trash that has inexplicably gathered at the bottom of the high-traffic staircase to the top. From looking at the surface of the bridge, you wouldn't think so much is going on undern...

My Adventures in Syria. On Being the American Wife of a Fulbright Scholar in Damascus. Tuesday, April 26, 2005. Hijab Envy - Part 1. There’s just no reason not to admire a woman who wears the hijab. The Muslim dress code of the veil). It’s one of my favorite things about living in. Most Westerners are familiar with the loose, black covering (I think it’s called a chador. The next level seems to be the “trench coat hijab. I would choose this style. Observance. The most common seems to be almost. Except th...

Has been expanding into my philosophical turf for some time now, and with this quote by Andrew Solomon (whoever that is) has truly upstaged me:. As one who has trodden through the bleak, black wasteland of depression, so much of this quote rings true for me! Mercifully, there is never a point at which it is too late to choose this path! We were in the jungle, mountains, hills, agricultural, ancient ruins, and now on a Safari that made me feel like we were at a game park in Africa. Our fantastic guide/driver told us before we planned the trip that this Yala National Park would be the place to go! Lucia- insert creative nickname. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Harold B. Ratliff thoughts, news, and silly stuff! Sunday, June 29, 2014. Camping is not something that immediately comes to mind when youthink about moving to the dessertbut we quicklyl learned that it's a favorite here. There's plenty of space, the winter weather is perfect for outdoors stuff, and it's nice and cheap once you get some equipment. Here was when we went to the dunes to camp last Fall (this post has been hiding in my draft box). Kids and dirt, this place is pretty much their heaven! Harold B. Lee.

http://familiaratliff.blogspot.com/2013_03_01_archive.html
Ratliff thoughts, news, and silly stuff! Thursday, March 21, 2013. So, on our way to DC (to do our immigration paperwork and visit some family), the craigslist photographer we had booked cancelled to do a wedding. I was so stressed and trying to find a last minute replacement but everyone I contacted was too busy, too expensive, not willing to provide digital copies of the prints etc. Oh, the place we were already planning to be that day. SWEEEET! Plus she was great, and so talented! Tender mercy for sure.
