Myakka River Fishing Trips. Captain Jim Klopfer 941-371-1390. There is a private dam several miles below Lower Myakka Lake. The river downstream from this dam is brackish and tidally influenced. In the winter, saltwater game fish such as snook, redfish, and even juvenile tarpon migrate far up the Myakka seeking warmer water and prey. It is not uncommon to hook bass and snook on the same lure on successive casts! I find the stretch between Laurel Rd and SR 41 to be the most productive.
