April 7th, 2016. My internet and classic Mac pal Riccardo Mori of System Folder. Over on his Twitter account. And it’s been a ton of fun to follow along. What’s amazing to me is how even some of the recent (past 10 years or so) Apple products seem like classics now. A true trip down memory lane. Thanks Riccardo! At 1:30 pm on April 7th, 2016. Newton Poetry — Using Automator to make scheduled backups
http://newtonpoetry.com/2009/07/13/using-automator-to-make-scheduled-backups
Using Automator to make scheduled backups. Backup isn’t backup, the saying goes, unless you automate it. Backup experts also say you should keep a second, off-site copy of all of your important materials. If your house burns down, or zombies darken your door, that melted or masticated external hard drive isn’t going to be worth squat. Better to make a backup to a cloud-based system or a drive you keep away from your home. So here’s how I used two OS X 10.4 applications, Automator. Since the applications ...

My "non-techie" views on the business and technology world, in plain English. Brand: It Aint the Logo. Existing order error message. Profit vs. volume. Wednesday, March 30, 2011. Understanding the Palm OS 5 die-hard. To begin with, I really appreciate Philip Haine's article 1995 Palm Calendar creams the 2008 iPhone's. The question that comes up for us quite regularly is "where do we go from here? The answer is a resounding "no". Each of the leading platforms - Blackberry, iPhone, Android - have their nic...

Non-techie Talk: A tale of two updates

My "non-techie" views on the business and technology world, in plain English. Brand: It Aint the Logo. Existing order error message. Profit vs. volume. Friday, January 7, 2011. A tale of two updates. My boss lost data from his Blackberry because a Windows Update screwed up Outlook's auto archiving function. Of course, Windows didn't tell us it did this, that would just be too helpful - nah, it just dumped data and the update removed the user's ability to turn off auto-archiving. What we did was to. I sho...

My "non-techie" views on the business and technology world, in plain English. Brand: It Aint the Logo. Existing order error message. Profit vs. volume. Tuesday, July 5, 2011. I hate WordPress (sorta). I maintain six blogs - five. In Blogger and one on my own domain. Using WordPress, a decision made on a recommendation. I find WordPress to be a royal PITA. The ability to include and edit exerpts. The revision control to revert to a previous version if necessary. Blogger is accessible to non-coders, but th...

I hate Lotus Notes. I will admit that it isn't the fault of the developers, not totally, anyway. After all, they'll be the first to admit that it was not designed as an email client first, which is how most people (especially those like me who hate it) interact with it. Site was taken down; here's an old copy.

ack/nak: wondering: when to let go of your "product focus"
http://acknak.blogspot.com/2011/04/wondering-when-to-let-go-of-your.html
More than you expected, less than you feared. Monday, April 11, 2011. Wondering: when to let go of your "product focus". I thought I had lost it forever, but there it was, in the bottom of a plastic bag full of crib mattress pads I discovered while cleaning out my basement. Alas, its handwriting recognition is still awful. And it won't let me set its date to April 2011. But they still have users. Some of them are very, very devoted. I don't think about my old products very often, but I think about my old...
