We were "Living the Dream", next thing I knew I was laying in a grass field and heard the ambulance sirens. We rode every mile. No sag. That was my intention. My ass is red. Riding across America on a Bike. Wednesday, June 8, 2011. Day 33- Rest day in Champaign, IL. Great downtown with brew pubs, restaurants, stores and young hip people. After my massage while Tracy had her's I headed to the local brew pub for a beer and a pretzel. Pretty nice wines selection too. The weatherman forecasted 50% chance of rain, so we put our coats in the van. Figure if we have them then it won't rain. It is nice to finally be passing through some towns. Todays ride could have been an easy spin of 74 miles but one factor always seems to pop up, the wind. The wind can be heroic or demonic and most of the time it has been the evil one. We did make it to another milestone, the 2000 mile mark. We passed a bicycle junk yard, I was ready to leave my bike but I couldn't find a lift from anyone. My ass is red. Riding across America on a Bike. Tuesday, May 31, 2011. Day 25- Rest day in Abilene, KS. We arrived in Abilene with our mouths watering because the famous Brookman Hotel has the best fried chicken in Kansas.NOT! It is closed on the two days we are here. The only option was La Fiesta Mexican restaurant a short, wind blown walk away. My friend Jeff had a small margarita, and the rest of us had a beer or two. We found a great coffee shop inside a gas station that had cappuccino and good food.
