Advertising and Privacy Information. Gardening adventures in a small urban space. Welcome to my balcony. It gets windy up here but it's not that bad. Usually in late spring and early summer we spend time on the balcony but we find by late afternoon it gets too hot. A long time ago we had pigeon netting. On these pages you'll find ramblings about what I've grown in my balcony garden. The projects.

My Balcony Jungle: June 2014
http://mybalconyjungle.blogspot.com/2014_06_01_archive.html
Gardening adventures in a small urban space. Tuesday, June 3, 2014. Transplanted and growing well. I haven't built proper trellises for the melon plants yet but I do need to get on that soon. I was putting it off, waiting to see if they would grow ok. I also planted a few pepper plants in a sunny spot: Hungarian Hot Wax and Jimmy Nardello's. Had lots of trouble getting the Nardello's to grow. I seeded maybe two dozen and only got three to grow to transplant size. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).
My Balcony Jungle: June 2015
http://mybalconyjungle.blogspot.com/2015_06_01_archive.html
Gardening adventures in a small urban space. Monday, June 15, 2015. I grew some wheat grass a long time ago and had lots of wheat berries left over. They last forever in the fridge so when spring came around, I planted a handful in this bucket to see how well they would grow and add a bit of green to the balcony. Saturday, June 6, 2015. Labels: black cherry tomaotes. Wednesday, June 3, 2015. After a couple of weeks the lettuce in this container is growing again. I wasn't around to water it but I gues...

Sprouts - Sunflower Sprouts and Shoots
http://sprouting.mybalconyjungle.com/sunflower_sprouts.html
Advertising and Privacy Information. Growing your own Sunflower Sprouts and Shoots. There are a couple of different ways to sprout sunflower seed and it all depends on you seed. The most common way to obtain sunflower seed is with the hull on. However you can't really sprout these seeds. They need to be grown in or on some sort of growing media and what you harvest is the shoot. So that's what I have available. And don't think I'll try. Sunflower shoots send lots of long thick roots down into their g...
My Balcony Jungle: Beans at the top
http://mybalconyjungle.blogspot.com/2015/07/beans-at-top.html
Gardening adventures in a small urban space. Sunday, July 26, 2015. Beans at the top. The beans are looking better now. Maybe it was the fertilizer I added to the water. The leaves are thicker and darker and don't seem to be as affected by the hot sun as they were a week ago. I'm pouring a good gallon and a half of water into the container (self watering) every day. Still no flowers yet = no beans. But still lots of time. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Beans at the top. The aphids are back.
My Balcony Jungle: June 2012
http://mybalconyjungle.blogspot.com/2012_06_01_archive.html
Gardening adventures in a small urban space. Saturday, June 30, 2012. My golden midget watermelon is growing and putting out flowers. I managed to pollinate a female flower earlier this week and it was starting to point down and form a melon. But it yellowed and died. Just wasn't meant to be. I would like to see the plant grow a little faster. It needs more vine to get up into more sunlight. Tuesday, June 26, 2012. Something eating my basil. Friday, June 15, 2012. My Balcony Jungle: July 2014
http://mybalconyjungle.blogspot.com/2014_07_01_archive.html
Gardening adventures in a small urban space. Sunday, July 27, 2014. Curled Leaves on the Peppers. My peppers have been growing well. Hard to tell in the images but all four plants are loaded with peppers. I've had to prop the Jimmy Nardellos up to prevent them from falling over. I don't know what I'm going to do with the Hot Wax peppers this year. Wednesday, July 23, 2014. The first Charentais melon. Saturday, July 19, 2014. Once I got it up there, it was happy until I had to do some re-arranging to get ...
My Balcony Jungle: September 2012
http://mybalconyjungle.blogspot.com/2012_09_01_archive.html
Gardening adventures in a small urban space. Saturday, September 29, 2012. Went out to water the plants yesterday and as I turned to go back inside I saw something move in a reflection in the window that caught my attention. A squirrel had somehow scaled the 18 floors to the top of my building. Saturday, September 15, 2012. Saturday, September 8, 2012. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Awesome Inc. template. My Balcony Jungle: The first black cherry tomatoes
http://mybalconyjungle.blogspot.com/2015/08/the-first-black-cherry-tomatoes.html
Gardening adventures in a small urban space. Monday, August 10, 2015. The first black cherry tomatoes. Actually, the first was picked a few days before these. The clusters are slowly starting to ripen. And there are lots of them. These are each a good inch and a quarter in diameter. Perhaps not as dark as they appear in this image. A little more reddish green than this. Nice juicy flavour. Labels: black cherry tomaotes. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). The wall of green. The first black cherry tomatoes.
My Balcony Jungle: August 2012
http://mybalconyjungle.blogspot.com/2012_08_01_archive.html
Gardening adventures in a small urban space. Monday, August 13, 2012. Blossom end rot perhaps? Saturday, August 11, 2012. A black cherry harvest. I have two black cherry tomato plants and I've been picking ripe tomatoes for the past couple weeks. I'll probably get a few more bowls like this over then next few weeks. A nice little snack for the kids. I give the tomatoes a good rinse and leave them out on the table and they just disappear. Sunday, August 5, 2012. Saturday, August 4, 2012.

My Balcony Jungle
Gardening adventures in a small urban space. Thursday, August 31, 2017. End of the Season. The Brandywine tomato plant is still doing well but hasn't put out any tomatoes. I started it too late and it's in a spot on the balcony that has never been all that great for tomatoes. Also, the cape gooseberry plants have shed most of their leaves and, I would say, are officially done. They each managed to put out a few fruits but the plants will be dead before they ripen. Tuesday, August 8, 2017.
