This Present Joy: January 2011

Saturday, January 29, 2011. The Things They Say. Inevitably, children say the funniest- and sometimes the wisest- things. Wise because they remove all the fluff from conversation and just get to the heart of the matter rather quickly. And, then, there is the humor factor simply because of the way children may pronounce something or substitute words that sound right. Here are a few that I want to remember forever from my little gals:. Remember that, Mom. Don't let it drop out of your mind! A baby's smile&...

This Present Joy: April 2009

Tuesday, April 28, 2009. A Good Suggestion for Me. I've never really been one to make New Year's resolutions. Well, I take that back. I used to make resolutions. Back in high school, I remember dating a journal page with 01-01 and having great feelings of starting anew. There was something redemptive of a new year- new goals, new challenges, grand plans of doing things differently and better. Anyway, what I do remember is straying from my handful of resolutions only about 3-4 weeks into the year. It's no...

This Present Joy: June 2009

Sunday, June 7, 2009. A Sister For All Times. When I was pregnant with Hannah, I remember having some apprehension about Carly's reaction to having a younger sibling. Would she be jealous of the time we devoted to her sister? Would she feel left out? Would she act out towards her? From day one, she has been the devoted big sister to Hannah Jane. When Hannah was only a week old, Carly trekked up to the hospital ICU with us, clutching a gift bag, ready to deliver a special toy to her little sister. Whether...

Monday, August 22, 2011. So, here's to the rosy faces of Hannah and Carly as they finished their bike ride and walk- Hannah stopping with Daddy to say "hello" to a neighbor- Carly racing up the hill on her bike as I gave her an extra push- and to both of them for reminding me that these are the things that life is made of. This Present Joy: Wasn't it just February?
http://thispresentjoy.blogspot.com/2010/11/wasnt-it-just-february.html
Monday, November 15, 2010. Wasn't it just February? For what it's worth, I've written. Blog posts in my head since February. I've blogged about Carly's dance recital from May, our trips to Florida and Omaha this summer, swim lessons, the first day of preschool for Carly and Hannah, and multiple in-between moments that represent this stage of life for our family. But, I just haven't gotten them typed from my head to the computer. I'm going from once every 9 months to once every week. Ha! And, Hannah looks...

This Present Joy: February 2009
http://thispresentjoy.blogspot.com/2009_02_01_archive.html
Friday, February 20, 2009. This series of pictures reminded me of the good "old-fashioned" photo booth shots- close-up and sporadic. (I think there's an unspoken rule for photo booth pictures that someone is supposed to be looking away or making a silly face.). When I look at these pictures, I can almost hear the giggles (not to mention the coaxing, "Ok, Carly look at the camera just for a few seconds. . .Hannah, over here, look over here! Tuesday, February 17, 2009. Worth a Thousand Words. There were al...

This Present Joy: Thankful. . .
http://thispresentjoy.blogspot.com/2010/11/thankful.html
Monday, November 29, 2010. Thankful. . . We had a great Thanksgiving weekend. J's family came over for lunch and with everyone contributing a bit to the feast, we had just that. One of my favorite parts of our Thanksgiving meal is the cranberry sauce. It's a recipe my grandmother made when I was growing up, and it's absolutely delicious. Not to mention, it makes me think of her when I make it and brings back sweet memories. Another treat for our weekend was Aunt Stephanie coming to town! For a LONG time.
