I am also an experienced film maker, having worked in the TV and Film industry since 1979. I have managed to combine my roles, and in addition to working as a trainer, I have also produced a number of training and awareness raising videos, including 'Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow' and 'Tomorrow is another day' for the Alzheimer's Society. Great Cattery In The Sky. Although sadly missed, he had a good quality of life and we were pleased that he chose to stay with us.

Approximately 20% of people over the age of 85 will have some form of dementia. However, although age is a risk factor, dementia is not caused by old age. There are currently more than 17,000 younger people in the UK with dementia under the age of 65. In total, there are more than 800,000 people with dementia in the UK. It is important to remember that everyone is a unique individual, with their own personal experience and life-story.

In all the dementia training I deliver, there is a strong focus on the 'person centred approach'. Although we also explore general issues of dementia (eg. common symptoms), it is really important to remember that people will be affected differently because everyone is a unique individual. Including our own behaviour, body language, attitude and other non-verbal messages. We also consider the needs of relatives and family carers and the importance of working in partnership, giving and receiving support.
