Adventures in flora, fauna, food, and the great unknown. Author Archives: JD Doyle. Sew easy, sew hard. For months now, I’ve been talking about how I wanted to learn how to sew. Both my mother and my mother-in-law had sewing machines languishing in basements, just waiting to be used and loved, and both offered them up to me. Last weekend, I finally got my hands on one of them, and I got right to work. Machines. The first is that absolutely. Don’t worry, though; Evelyn isn’t going far. She...Fast-forward ...

Transformation | Floraphage

Adventures in flora, fauna, food, and the great unknown. Last year, we missed the prime of summer in the Pioneer Valley, instead enjoying the beauty of Ireland. (Amazingly, I have still not finished editing all of the photos from that trip. Although I’m nearly finished.) This year, we stayed put and folks, it was gorgeous. I went on adventure of a very different nature later in the summer. I’m lucky enough to live near what has to be one of the better yarn stores in the world, Webs. It was slow going for...

Fast-forward again. That...

Rhinebeck: fiber paradise | Floraphage
https://floraphage.wordpress.com/2015/11/07/rhinebeck-fiber-paradise
Adventures in flora, fauna, food, and the great unknown. I’d never been to Rhinebeck before, and I was prepared for it to be awesome (it was) and overwhelming (it was). What I. Fully prepared for was just how stunning the scenery would be. How’s this for a lunchtime view? But and this will probably be no surprise the highlight of the day was, for me, the animals the sweet, beautiful creatures that make it all possible. 8230;and a gorgeous Kundert spindle, with which I am completely in love. Adventures in flora, fauna, food, and the great unknown. Knitting hearts and love. May in western Massachusetts felt quite a bit like summer, with a bunch of high-80s and low-90s days, so when the weather cooled off again, I think it tricked my brain into thinking the worst was over. (Summer is not my favorite of the seasons. It’s not conducive to knitting! I love how the cables mimic little hearts. Yup, it’s I Heart Cardigans. One bulky and warm ( Campus Jacket. I was working on this project in late Jun...

The Mad Samplers: El Rincon Tico
http://madsamplers.blogspot.com/2011/10/el-rincon-tico.html
We're trying to find our favorite Madison, WI restaurant. So we're trying all 437 of them. Sunday, October 16, 2011. Ok, it's pretty rare that we just flat out do not enjoy a restauranteering experience. But when we went to El Rincon Tico. We left not only really disappointed but also.really hungry. Allow me to explain. We went on a Friday night around 7pm, and got a table right away. And that was the highlight. Ugh, I am so sad. But I just can't stay too mad at Mango Man. SEB and J.A.D. The Mad Samplers: January 2011
http://madsamplers.blogspot.com/2011_01_01_archive.html
We're trying to find our favorite Madison, WI restaurant. So we're trying all 437 of them. Monday, January 31, 2011. Madison is on an isthmus. We're surrounded by lakes, we've got them coming out of our ears. I've seen lots of fish that we're medically discouraged from eating. One time, I saw a turtle from a bridge in the park near our house. Like the great fish itself, it stands majestic, alone (with Ocean Grill) at the top of the high-end seafood scene in Madison. Okay, maybe more like this local food.

The Mad Samplers: March 2011
http://madsamplers.blogspot.com/2011_03_01_archive.html
We're trying to find our favorite Madison, WI restaurant. So we're trying all 437 of them. Saturday, March 26, 2011. I've only ever purchased one thing from this custard. I should probably say Betsy also enjoys a different dessert, the mint chocolate chip shake. They're much better than shamrock shakes, which I recently found out, are disgusting. I think she's had a couple other sundaes as well, all of which were enjoyed. Michael's does also have some food. But why would anyone eat it? The fact that this...

The Mad Samplers: Brocach
http://madsamplers.blogspot.com/2011/12/brocach.html
We're trying to find our favorite Madison, WI restaurant. So we're trying all 437 of them. Sunday, December 4, 2011. Ugh, I'm sorry to say that the first time we've gone out to eat someplace new lately it was a big fat disappointment. We were so hopeful when we saw the new Brocach. Open on Monroe Street. It seemed like the perfect fit for the block and brought something a little different. There have been a few failed restaurants lately but this had potential. December 8, 2011 at 11:32 PM. It is our opin...
