Got invited to head out to the Cascade Siskiyou National Monument and Soda Mountain Wilderness Area where the BLM has been actively fixing pre-Wilderness erosion problems stemming from roads and trails. I hiked out a road which had been blocked to prevent new use. The road accessed a wetland meadow which had been largely subsoiled and mulched to restore historic flow paths and to reduce soil compaction. Amazon Wish...

We inspected yarding trails in a timber salvage unit called Burnt Stew. The yarding trails were pretty rocky which makes subsoiling them difficult. Nd then a few days later it was back to Powell Creek. This time with our geology staff and District Fisheries Biologist so that we could GPS restoration sites that we have planned in a couple months. Here's a 15,000 acre (and growing) fire that engulfed most of Stouts Creek up on the Roseburg District that is sending all of its smoke south into our neighborhood. Air quality is pegged at "hazardous" and the view from our house is gone. Everything smells like a campfire. Rather ominous looking.as the governor of California said.this is the new norm.
