Mwen renmen ti moun Ayiti yo!: October 2014

http://myhaitiankids.blogspot.com/2014_10_01_archive.html

Mwen renmen ti moun Ayiti yo! Saturday, October 25, 2014. In my free time. I prepare lesson plans, gather materials for class activities, write exams, grade exams, and do all the chores that keep a Haitian household running, things like shopping at the outdoor market, pumping water by hand, washing clothes by hand, killing cockroaches and so on. I also have great fun in my free time. Sunday, October 19, 2014. When I got home yesterday, the first thing my neighbor said was, "Someone at church died.".

http://myhaitiankids.blogspot.com/2014_08_01_archive.html

Mwen renmen ti moun Ayiti yo! Saturday, August 23, 2014. All my graduations follow a similar pattern. The students sing, the "godfather" and "godmother" of the class (sort a combination of sponsors and commencement speakers) give speeches, and then I give out diplomas and honorary first scrubs. Then all the graduates and I pose for an eternity while the spectators takes photos. Smiling for that many photos can get quite exhausting! I think it's quite nice. But all of my Haitian friends reminded me th...

Mwen renmen ti moun Ayiti yo! Wednesday, December 17, 2014. Haiti is the best country". Last night I was shooting the breeze with my adult neighbors, Bradley and Ketsia. It was a beautiful windy evening and most of the houses on our street didn't have electricity, so everyone was outside. Children were running around, teens were gossiping, and adults were drinking a beer or buying food from the restaurant next door. Out of the blue, Ketsia asked me, "Do you think Haiti is a good country?

http://myhaitiankids.blogspot.com/2015_01_01_archive.html

Mwen renmen ti moun Ayiti yo! Wednesday, January 28, 2015. Handicapped kids are considered cursed in Haiti. People don't understand brain damage or developmental delay and they go out of their way to hide, abuse, and shame both the patient and the family. So when Patricko was abandoned, it meant that no one was feeding him, changing his clothes or diapers or sheets, bathing him or giving him any attention at all. Until Anne and Venelia took charge. Monday, January 12, 2015. There are no photos to capture...

http://myhaitiankids.blogspot.com/2014_11_01_archive.html

Mwen renmen ti moun Ayiti yo! Sunday, November 23, 2014. I am not a missionary. Rony is one of the men I am training to replace me. Of the many reasons why I chose him, his strong faith in God and commitment to his family were high on the list. Two weeks ago, Rony's 11 year old daughter was hospitalized with vomiting and diarrhea, a common ailment in Haiti. Rony came to work looking flustered and distracted so I sent him back to his family. His daughter died the next day. I am not a missionary. My Ha...

Global Review: Free-For-All 2008: Republicans Falling Apart, Democrats Coming Together

http://globalreview.blogspot.com/2007/04/free-for-all-2008.html

Monday, April 16, 2007. Free-For-All 2008: Republicans Falling Apart, Democrats Coming Together. 2007: a tale of two parties. The Democrats have two strong candidates and inexplicable hanger-on who retain the top three spots, the big money. And the good poll standings. The Republican pre-primary, on the other hand, is the wild, wild west. Most of the recent excitement surrounds two non-candidates: Fred Thompson and Newt Gingrich. The best fundraiser - Mitt Romney - rarely breaks the top three. Jun '06: C...

katie loves haiti: Smelly Feet

http://katieloveshaiti.blogspot.com/2015/02/smelly-feet.html

Wednesday, February 4, 2015. Last year, I had a student named David in my class. He was and continues to be the class clown, often disrupting lessons with his antics. For example, one day when he noticed a preschooler getting attention because he had peed his pants, David announced to all his friends: look I'm going to pee myself too.and he did! There is no limit to what this boy will do to get a laugh. My feet smell terrible! They smell all day long! I wrote a song about it: wow! So, I grabbed a paper a...

Leaning on the Everlasting Arms. Thursday, February 12, 2015. Marybeth and I share a tremendous amount of things in common. It was good to talk about Deaf Church and life in general. My classroom is in the library. When the children have "break" from 10:00 to 10:30 several come into the library to look at books. Marybeth seized the moment to read to several of them. Leaning on the Everlasting Arms: Thank God for Veronika!

http://jesus-deafchurch.blogspot.com/2015/03/thank-god-for-veronika_7.html

Leaning on the Everlasting Arms. Saturday, March 7, 2015. Thank God for Veronika! God is so amazing. How does he make these amazing connections? I couldn't have even imagined a sweet, 27 year old woman, from the Czech Republic teaching our children. It reminds me of the verse: Ephesians 3:20 (The Message). God can do anything, you know—far more than you could ever imagine or guess or request in your wildest dreams! I am so delighted. The children are so happy. They love her! Hooray. Go God! EVERY meeting...

Well as most of you know, we left for Haiti about 3 weeks ago now. It feels so good to be here and be getting back into the swing of things. It was really hard to leave our friends and family this time, but as soon as we landed in Haiti we were reminded that we are in the right place and God has a plan for us here. Hope you enjoy the pictures!
