Good Things to Know. We are located in Volcano, just one mile from the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, at the 4,000 foot elevation in a semi-tropical rainforest. It rains an average of 160 inches per year, so prepare for rain! Daytime highs reach the low 70's, nighttime lows generally in the 50's, with winter nights getting into the 40's. Considering the National Park is only slightly smaller than the entire island of Oahu, we reccommend spending at least 2-3 days here. Free parking on the property.

The village of Volcano is located on Highway 11, between mile markers 26 and 27, just a mile east of Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. We are 26 miles from the Hilo airport, a drive of 40 minutes. We are 100 miles from the Kona airport, a minimum drive of 2.5 hours. Please note that GPS is not always accurate. If you can't find us by our physical address (19-3896 Old Volcano Road), type in "Volcano, HI" and refer to our map below once inside of the village. 19-3896 Old Volcano Road, Volcano, HI 96785.

My Island Inn's Four Acre Garden. You'll want to bring your camera to explore the Inn's beautiful four acre garden. Part of My Island's estate was originally deeded to the Lyman misisonaries in 1886 by King Kamehameha V. The Morses are the second family owners. The driveway is part of the old wagon road from Hilo to Volcano. In the early 1900's the driveway was planted with white hydrangea, pink and white azalea, plum trees, and sugi (pine) trees, many of which still exist today.

Tuesday, September 10, 2013. You're going to Hawaii? Prior to our trip, every time we talked about going to Hawaii we thought about Luis Guzman'. S character from Punch Drunk Love. And how excited he was for Adam Sandler to be going to Hawaii. In case you can't tell, we both pretty damn entertained by Luis Guzman (not sure why you wouldn't be! And if you didn't know, going to Hawaii is wonderful. We headed straight for Mauna Kea. Afterwards, we headed to our awesome B&B ( My Island Bed and Breakfast.

Friday, September 13, 2013. Although unplanned (because neither Andy or I can successfully remember our anniversary), we headed to Crater Lake for our 6th anniversary with friends. We hiked, took a boat tour around the lake, watched the meteor shower (which apparently always falls on or around our anniversary! And cards against humanity. All in all, it was a great weekend (except that in our two games of euchre, no team made it in the barn. Which is my favorite part of the game). Flowers for my birthday!
