Reflections of a retired priest by Father Len Stoviak
Journey Thoughts: May 2015
http://myjourneythoughts.blogspot.com/2015_05_01_archive.html
Reflections of a parish priest by Father Len Stoviak. Saturday, May 30, 2015. New Deacons in Erie. Back on October 1 of the year 2012 I attended the ordination ceremony for Bishop Lawrence T. Persico at the beautiful Saint Peter Cathedral in Erie, Pennsylvania. The joy and the hospitality of the Erie Diocese at the ordination of their new bishop was wonderful and deeply appreciated. Bishop Persico's ordination in 2012. Tom is in the back row behind the right shoulder of the bishop. The Gathering Song was...

Reflections of a parish priest by Father Len Stoviak. Friday, July 17, 2015. Another neat thing about the ordination. Again, the choices in themselves are great, but the personal touch that he brings goes a long way and affirms the people of God in this local Church. Welcome to the Diocese! People are already responding. Links to this post. Wednesday, July 15, 2015. There were a number of "pointed hats" (bishops/abbots) with local ties in attendance at Bishop Malesic's Ordination on Monday. He also menti...

Reflections of a parish priest by Father Len Stoviak. Wednesday, July 15, 2015. Joy and sadness - part 1. Bishop Malesic has an easy style and a great sense of humor, and his homily brought attentive listening as well as frequent laughter. He spoke of how nervous he was after receiving the call from Archbishop Carlo Vigano regarding the Holy Father's choice of him as Bishop of Greensburg. "Could I really do this? He asked himself. "Could I be a good bishop? An excellent public reception was held in the p...

http://myjourneythoughts.blogspot.com/2014_08_01_archive.html
Reflections of a parish priest by Father Len Stoviak. Saturday, August 30, 2014. That moment of doubt. On Wednesday we remembered a good woman of faith who spent thirty-two years praying for her son, Augustine, and her husband to see the light, and every day being disappointed by their blindness. Did Monica question her persistence in prayer and her reliance upon the promise of her God year after year? Links to this post. Wednesday, August 27, 2014. Links to this post. A common blog from a common middle age man who's journey.well. Monday, March 28, 2011. Yesterday I left Holy Mass very confused. That happens after you spend time in the pew, your soul being bombarded with superfluous crap and agendas. 2 The Eucharistic Prayer (II) didn't take that long. 3 The announcement by the pastor following the closing prayer lasted three minutes- because the new website for the parish was being 'launched'. Yeh- consumer driven church. Sometimes you don't want to hear about money.

A common blog from a common middle age man who's journey.well. Monday, February 28, 2011. Playing the Ex-Priest Card. Recently two ex Roman Catholic priests have been part of their own media blitz campaign. The first was a fellow from Miami. Who had a popular following in the media world. Photographs of him on a beach with his love were circulated world wide. Soon after he left the active ministry, married, and became an Episcopal priest. Like I said I could empathize. Still, I could empathize. Okay, my ...

A common blog from a common middle age man who's journey.well. Thursday, November 10, 2011. The following post is worth a read. Links to this post. Monday, November 7, 2011. Fr Ego vs. Fr. Real- comment. I copied the following comment because it sums up the predicament priests like 'Fr Ego' pose for the good clergy and parishioners and bishops out there. The reader Dionysus said it well. To your other point concerning possible fiscal debt and the issue of parishioners saddled with some ego-centered proje...

A common blog from a common middle age man who's journey.well. Monday, July 27, 2015. Not Sure Where To Go With This. I can't come up with a title for this entry. I know what I don't want it to be or even 'be-come'. I don't want it to come across as complaining or soapboxing. I've done enough of that through the years and I know I tend to gravitate in that direction. I apologize ahead of time if it comes across as such. Yesterday at Mass we heard a 'report'. Yesterday I was told-. Change has to happen.

A common blog from a common middle age man who's journey.well. Sunday, July 31, 2011. So there I was, sound asleep- which for me is a small miracle. I never was a good sleeper, but now as time continues its linear march forward- I become less and less a good sleeper. None-the-less, I was at the hour in the morning when the Trappists had already completed there vigils. In the echoes of between awake and asleep I heard my wife let the dogs out side. I fell back asleep before I heard them come back in.

A common blog from a common middle age man who's journey.well. Tuesday, June 28, 2011. The other day I was standing in line at the grocery store when I overheard a conversation between two people about a priest who was being transferred. Wow, the season snuck up on me—Transfer Season 2011 is here and in full swing. Usually ordinations occur during spring—setting off a series of movements and transfers like dominoes falling. It is a different story in many dioceses. It was nothing more than gossip. As an ...

A common blog from a common middle age man who's journey.well. Saturday, May 28, 2011. Check these following quotes taken from OSV pertaining to catholic home schooling. A priest by the name of Rev. Peter M.J. Stravinskas (who is the director of the Catholic Education Foundation). Shared his defense of parish catholic education as opposed to homeschooling catholic education. It shows in what he sees as a dearth of vocations from home school families.”. And one more,. You mean to tell me that every pastor...

My Journey: The First 40 Years
My Journey: The First 40 Years. Thursday, December 13, 2012. Hurry up and . Being 7 years old is not easy. Case in point (I am generalizing here but I’m sure most of us deal with the lack of hours in a day in a similar fashion):. Backpack on their backs, kids are given a quick kiss on the cheek and handed over the pre-school staff. Quick waves of a hand and off they go. They’re now our education systems problem… at least for the next 8 to 10 hours. Phew! Although school ends at 2:40, most kids don’...

The Second Half
Sunday, July 27, 2014. Time is of essence! You blink and years pass. It's been over a year since my last blog post and my only excuse has been the lack of time to sit in front of a computer to type what has been on my mind. I continuously question other people's exceptional time management: How do they manage to squeeze in everything that they want to do in 18 waking hours? I would feel happy if I could do half of what I want to do in 20 hours. Like what you ask? Here's my wish list:. If you ever wonder.

Journey Thoughts
Reflections of a retired priest by Father Len Stoviak. Saturday, April 7, 2018. Holy Week began for me as I joined with Father Jim Morley and the people of the Church of Saint Paul in Greensburg for Palm Sunday. I joined our community of retired men for the Easter morning Mass in our chapel, followed by an Easter brunch provided by our kitchen staff. That was my Holy Week. As always, in celebrating well with the People of God, my vision of the truth and power of the Gospel message is made clearer, an...

My Journey Through Life | Life through my eyes
My Journey Through Life. Life through my eyes. Roll up your sleeves. October 30, 2016. The more we come together as a people to fix what’s broken, the better things will be. Depending on the government to fix drug epidemics, or crime, or anything else won’t create a lasting impact on society as a whole. We need to be the ones to make the change. The laws and financing of research should only be a secondary step from a movement among the people. Bring a solution to the table. April 18, 2016. I ended up ha...

Bakersfield, CA, United States. In the light of yesterday's horrible events I would like to point out a few observations about this child. Having taught children with emotional disturbance. My Journey Through Anorexia
My Journey Through Anorexia. Things worth recovering for. Thursday, November 5, 2015. I have a confession. Recovery right now is steady because people I love deserve a recovered me not because I want recovery. I long for the sweet arms of addiction. She beckons to me like a siren promising that one night would satisfy my lust. I know it isn't true but the voice sings beautifully and I struggle to resist her pull.
