Sweet Meanderings: August 2014
http://sweetmeanderings.blogspot.com/2014_08_01_archive.html
Thursday, August 28, 2014. When Ceekay came to visit, one of her dreams was to see The Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island. Hubby and I were only too happy to help her realize that dream. We discovered that we could take a boat from Liberty State Park in New Jersey so we all decided to make the trip in one very long day. The ferries became a lot more crowded later in the day. Ellis Island was the nation's main point of entry for millions of immigrants from 1892 to 1954. A lot of the exhibits were closed b...

Sweet Meanderings: March 2015
http://sweetmeanderings.blogspot.com/2015_03_01_archive.html
Friday, March 20, 2015. Vicksburg is right on Mississippi's border with Louisiana so we have the opportunity of exploring both states while we are here. We wanted to give Maggie a chance to spend the weekend at her new kennel so we took the opportunity to visit the Duck Dynasty. Gift shop in Monroe, Louisiana. We found their shop not far off the freeway in an industrial area of West Monroe. They have a separate parking lot for visitors so you have to walk across the lot you see on the show. Thursday, Mar...

Sweet Meanderings: July 2014

Tuesday, July 29, 2014. Middle Bass Island - Part 3. There are some very interesting aspects to life on Middle Bass Island. Right outside of Karl and Pat's house and, in fact, posted all over the island is a very interesting sign. The snakes may be a unique part of the island heritage but I don't want any in my yard! Pat says they aren't poisonous but are aggressive and have a painful bite. A big part of the human. The state is working to preserve the winery and the family mansion. We had one last look a...

Sweet Meanderings: October 2014
http://sweetmeanderings.blogspot.com/2014_10_01_archive.html
Thursday, October 30, 2014. A Whirlwind Tour of Washington D.C. We had not planned to visit Washington while Hubby was working in Pennsylvania. We had stayed there for a week, doing the tourist thing, when our children were younger and figured we had seen enough. However, a couple weeks ago our daughter, Dawn, was sent to Washington D.C. by her employer to attend the USO Gala. She was able to stay over an extra day to spend some quality time with us! There was the church Abraham Lincoln attended. That's ...

Sweet Meanderings: April 2015
http://sweetmeanderings.blogspot.com/2015_04_01_archive.html
Friday, April 17, 2015. Old Court House Museum in Vicksburg. We enjoy getting to know more about our temporary home here in Mississippi, so we spent one Saturday touring some of the museums. When Teddy Roosevelt came to Vicksburg, he visited the Old Court House. So did Jefferson Davis, Booker T. Washington, William McKinley and U.S. Grant - so we figured we ought to visit it too! It was on these grounds that Confederate President Jefferson Davis launched his political career. We had an enjoyable day lear...

Sweet Meanderings: January 2014
http://sweetmeanderings.blogspot.com/2014_01_01_archive.html
Monday, January 6, 2014. Saying "Good-bye" to Robards Mansion. The last couple of months have been a whirlwind! Shortly after my appendectomy, my parents house sold in Hannibal, Missouri - something we had been praying for for a long long time! In short order, Hubby and I found them a new home, not far from where we live, then packed up Maggie the Traveling Dog and headed to Hannibal to move them out of Robards Mansion Bed and Breakfast. I loved spending time with my sister, Penni, and my niece, Kimme.

Sweet Meanderings: Rosswood Plantation
http://sweetmeanderings.blogspot.com/2015/04/rosswood-plantation.html
Wednesday, April 1, 2015. As it happens, our 40th wedding anniversary falls on Easter this year. Since we wanted to go to church on Resurrection Sunday, we decided to celebrate a week early with a trip to Natchez and a stay at a beautiful plantation. Rosswood is actually out in the countryside a good 30 minute drive north of Natchez. It was built in 1857 at a cost of $10,735.64. Mabella continued living at Rosswood, losing her kitchen to a cannonball fired during the nearby Battle of the Cotton Bales.
