This is my journey in donating a kidney. It's all the stuff the pamphlets don't tell you. And probably a little more. My TWO YEAR check up. September 1, 2015. A month from today, I’ll go in and get my tests for my two year check up! I can’t believe it’s been two years! With that said, if you’re considering donating your kidney, and you have questions that have yet to be answered, feel free to email me or post questions in the comments. This is my journey in donating a kidney. It's all the stuff the pamphlets don't tell you. And probably a little more. Days 10-13 Post Surgery. October 13, 2013. I feel a little crampy in odd places. I’m still trying to move around into different chairs, couches and my bed. Once I stand up, it takes a while to straighten out. I do it with slow caution. But once I straighten out, I’m fine. This is my journey in donating a kidney. It's all the stuff the pamphlets don't tell you. And probably a little more. Days 5 and 6 Post Surgery. October 7, 2013. Now that I have that system in the mornings when I wake up, I haven’t felt sick at all. Chris’ parents head back home, and we’re on our own. But we’re getting meals from friends every other day. So, that’s nice. My left hand is still swollen from the IV. So, I’ve started icing it. The swelling has gone down. Day 7 post surgery. Day 4 Post Surgery.

This is my journey in donating a kidney. It's all the stuff the pamphlets don't tell you. And probably a little more. Day 7 post surgery. October 8, 2013. Today, I decided when I woke up to try to not take the pain meds. When I got out of bed, I noticed immediately that the pain from the incisions was gone. Just gone. I couldn’t believe it! There’s still a sensitivity of course. When I stand up from laying or sitting down, I still feel a bit hovered over. I take it slow to straighten up. My friend picked...

This is my journey in donating a kidney. It's all the stuff the pamphlets don't tell you. And probably a little more. Day 13 (Two Weeksish) Post Surgery. October 14, 2013. Today, I turned another corner. I was worried I’d done too much yesterday. But when I woke up, I had none of that previously mentioned crampy feeling. Things are still tender, but easy. I was weighed – I’m down 7 pounds from pre-surgery. Woohoo! Most of that is my appetite finally kicking in. My TWO YEAR check up.

Saturday, February 7, 2015. 9829; Kidney Love ♥. It's been a while. I think it's been about two years since my last post, and almost three since I donated my kidney. Ok, so it's official everyone - Karma is a real thing! I am writing to report that I have found "Kidney Love". What is Kidney Love? It's when I donate a kidney and put myself on the internet, and someone else who donates a kidney finds my blog, we meet, and then we fall in love. It's true. And it couldn't be more amazing! Monday, June 18, 2012. Would Dad know where I was when I got there? I didn’t even have my cell phone to call him and let him know where I was. I decided there wasn’t much I could do, so I just sat there and hoped for the best. Dad is a pretty resourceful guy and he managed to figure out where I would be. Sleep is a wonderful thing. A Kidney Story: My Awesome Experience as A Kidney Donor: Surgery / The Hospital

http://happykidney.blogspot.com/2012/06/hospital.html

Monday, June 18, 2012. Surgery / The Hospital. Since we had a bit of a break Dad and I got some lunch from a fantastic restaurant called “Dame Tartin”. If you are ever in Montreal, it’s on Ontario Street and it’s fabulous. I got the grilled veggie sandwich with home-made homefries, and a big pile of delicious salad. So good! Best last meal I could ever have asked for! Then they came in to put in my IV …. It was so comforting to know that someone was looking out for me. My surgeons came to visit me, altho...

A Kidney Story: My Awesome Experience as A Kidney Donor: One Year Update!

http://happykidney.blogspot.com/2013/06/one-year-update.html

Friday, June 21, 2013. It’s been a year and two months since I donated my kidney, and it has just flown by! There are only a couple of dietary things I am careful about:. I keep track of how much protein I’m putting in my body. (Too much protein can be hard on your kidneys). AND last but not least, I eat lots of leafy greens and fruits and veggies to help clean my blood. But, when you think about it those are things that we should all be doing anyhow, right? http://happykidney.blogspot.com/2012/06/home-sweet-home-stages-of-healing.html

Monday, June 18, 2012. Home Sweet Home and Healing. Over the next few weeks things progressed slowly but surely. At first I was only comfortable walking around the house. Showering was still a little scary, but it got progressively better. I became more and more comfortable with getting my incisions wet. I was elated and grossed out at the same time. Two feelings that seem to go together a lot during this whole experience. One Day After Surgery. Approximately 2 Weeks After Surgery. Surgery / The Hospital.

Monday, June 18, 2012. It was pretty hard to sleep that night, knowing that the next day I would be on my way to Montreal to give someone a kidney. A Kidney Story: My Awesome Experience as A Kidney Donor: All Better!

http://happykidney.blogspot.com/2012/09/all-better.html

Saturday, September 22, 2012. Time has gone by so quickly! I can hardly believe it’s been almost 6 months since my surgery! I had my 3 month check-up about 2 months ago (which would make it more of a 4 month check-up, I suppose) and the doctor gave me a clean bill of health. It was actually kind of anti-climactic to go all the way to the hospital and have them say “Yup – you’re healthy … that’s it! I’m feeling like my old self again. I can exercise (including sit-ups!
