Archive for May, 2011. Bamboozled — one purple short. So my daughter Patti and I did great at Prairie Yarns’ annual porch sale — several hundred dollars great. Some of the beautiful hand-dyed yarns I’d lusted for were half-price. The gorgeous Dakota Sky merino had been more than even I could justify at $48 a skein … but for $24, it seems dirt-cheap. This is just one of many rationalizations. And yes, I went back twice. The Fourth of July spirit. Bamboozled — one purple short. Log cabins in winter.

Tiny needles — still too “spacious”. April 2, 2011. Braver now, I bought a pair of size 2 circular needles and tackled another pattern from the Norwegian Heritage Museum. It’s from Terri Shea’s book. Selbuvotter: Biography of a Knitting Tradition. I love the pattern, but it’s still too large. I’m well on my way to making enough huge mittens for an NBA team’s starting five. I see the world in snapshots. Week #5 – Gratitude. My mom, my sister, my aunt, and myself took the opportunity today to visit the New Albany National Cemetery, which lays to rest veterans from 7 different battles, as well as the cemetery where several family members are buried including my dad. This design was advertised in the back of Creative Knitting early this summer, and I’ll bet I went to download it three or four times — then ended up debating why I’d pay for a simple combination of feather-and-fan and basketweave stitches. I ordered three skeins of rich, glossy UltraPima yarn, then looked at it for a couple weeks. And finally I went back to Desert Rose Designs and paid $6 for a pattern made up of stitches I already know by heart.
