Amanda's Journies: Oh, the perks!
http://amandasjournies.blogspot.com/2010/06/oh-perks.html
Monday, June 14, 2010. Oh, the perks! Now, you don't do a volunteer job for the side benefits, but one unexpected (and delicious! Perk I have found teaching free English classes to Muslim women is the food. Oh, the food! It would appear that my students are quite talented in the kitchen! I mean, can you call it European food? I have never liked European food. No fish and chips or haggus or french onion soup for this lady. But this was DE-lectable! Cultural differences and delights never cease to amaze me!

http://amandasjournies.blogspot.com/2009_06_01_archive.html
Thursday, June 4, 2009. Thank you, Mr. President. All I can say is, thank God he gets it. I cried when I read the transcript of the speech (and later watched it delivered! Finally, someone gets it. If President Obama understands, maybe regular Americans will start to as well? Thank you, President Obama, on behalf of all American Muslims, and Muslims across the globe. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Amanda's Journies: Teaching ESL for the First Time
http://amandasjournies.blogspot.com/2010/06/teaching-esl-for-first-time.html
Monday, June 7, 2010. Teaching ESL for the First Time. Yesterday I taught my first English as a Second Language class for adults. It's a free class for ladies only and I teach it at one of the local mosques. I think I may have found my new love (after Tasneem, Kamal, and sweets, of course! Side by Side),. A classic grammar text. And a picture dictionary. The Oxford Picture Dictionary). We started at the very beginning (What's your name? Etc) and I think it was just challenging enough for the students to ...

Amanda's Journies: May 2009
http://amandasjournies.blogspot.com/2009_05_01_archive.html
Saturday, May 30, 2009. Oh Don't Cha Know (Signs of Appleton). This being my first time living in the midwest, I had to pay tribute to the catchy language of the natives. :) Now I know where my mom and Grandpa Don got their appreciation and talent for the finer points of American English. :). I don't think I've seen a pet salon happier than this one! Clippety Do-Da (like Zippety Do-Da from Pinnochio, I think, right? Lol I know it's cheesy, but these things just tickle me. :). Oh, btw, and the comment her...

Amanda's Journies: Going Green (not what you think!)
http://amandasjournies.blogspot.com/2009/05/going-green-not-what-you-think.html
Tuesday, May 26, 2009. Going Green (not what you think! Green is the color of spring and new life. Green is the color of Shadow's eyes. Green is the color of my favorite car, my camry. Green is the color of conservation, recycling, and saving the Earth. Green is the color of new beginnings. Green is the color of summer. Green is the color of the kitchen full of love where I grew up. Green was the color of my sister's bedroom growing up (oooo that shag rug! Green is the color of my favorite sheets. By the...

Amanda's Journies: Cat on a Leash
http://amandasjournies.blogspot.com/2009/05/cat-on-leash.html
Monday, May 25, 2009. Cat on a Leash. Today Kamal and I ate BBQ chicken. He barbequed while I took Shadow for a "walk." It's amazing, he meows and meows and scratches at the door to go out, but once he gets there he just sits down, eats some grass, and looks around. Even with a (gentle) kick in the butt he doesn't move much! I've never seen such a lazy cat! May 26, 2009 at 4:36 PM. Good job. The cat needs to get out at least twice a week, instead of once in a blue moon. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).
