Chronicles of a fourth year math teacher. Fears, epic fails, and triumphs. Why and how I Bitmoji in my classroom? January 2, 2017. If I’m being completely honest, I bitmoji because I am obsessed and I find joy in sending. And receiving bitmoji. And all the cool kids are doing it! So…I wanted to find a way to connect to my students using something that became important in my communication with my family and friends through messaging and TWITTER! Students love the stickers. There’s so much variety. In ways...

Flexible Groupings – My Mathscape
https://mymathscape.wordpress.com/2016/10/08/flexible-groupings
Chronicles of a fourth year math teacher. Fears, epic fails, and triumphs. October 8, 2016. This last week we joined 3 classes that have math at the same time and regrouped students into 3 semi-homogenous groups. We based the groupings on diagnostic data from iReady, an adapative program that gives us the grade level equivalency of students based on their performance across different strands in math:. We’ll be revisiting the groupings often. We’re open to moving students as needed. Enter your comment here.

Chronicles of a fourth year math teacher. Fears, epic fails, and triumphs. Cuba Travels Post #1: What? September 23, 2016. September 23, 2016. Thanks to funding through Fund for Teachers. And its local partnership with Math for America. Why was I there? Margaret Chan, Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO). Isn’t it illegal for Americans to go? How did this even happen? Since one of them is educational activities, our trip was completely legal. Her father has some contacts who work in th...

My Teaching Lab Notebook. Embedding Files and Folders in a Website. January 22, 2014. I discovered the most amazing thing this past weekend! This was my highlight to the week! My students are having their final exams this week and I wanted to find a way to put links to previous tests, quizzes, and exams up on our class website with solutions for them to study. I use Google Sites. For my course websites. Up until now, I have been creating links to individual Dropbox. So that you can see how it works.

My Teaching Lab Notebook. January 9, 2014. I no longer felt that I had to defend final grades because I had complete transparency throughout the semester. There are many online grade books to choose from. I finally settled on JupiterGrades. It is free to use to keep records of grades, but it costs $50 to make it open to parents and students. I have decided to use my Teachers Choice money for this – it’s well worth it! These are my fav features:. E) At the beginning of the semester, JupiterGrades allows m...

My Teaching Lab Notebook. January 5, 2014. My personal goal is to set up my own shop so that I can start selling some of my own resources – hey, why shouldn’t I make some extra cash while helping other teachers? In order to start selling, all you have to do is first upload a free product. I have uploaded a video that I made while in grad school to help teach ELLs about Slope. Check it out below! Here is a way to find some compensation for your hard work! Go ahead – get in the game! January 5, 2014. You a...

My Teaching Lab Notebook. February 7, 2014. In the style of youpd.org. I’m going to describe Kagan Cooperative Learning, a “hack” for a problem that I think many of us face every day. A) I had high-level, attention-seeking students, who were bored and seeking negative attention and disrupting the class. I had a difficult time challenging them and I wanted to find a way to give them the attention that they needed, such that they would be helping other students, rather than distracting them. Click to print...

My Teaching Lab Notebook. NYC DOE Maternity Leave. March 27, 2014. Credit: http:/ www.flickr.com/photos/kit4na/. I have recently gone out on maternity leave and I wanted to take a minute to explain what I have learned so far about this confusing process for anyone currently going through the same thing. The process has very recently changed as everything is to be done online now at the DOE Self-service Online Leave Application System (SOLAS). Good luck to all of you NYC teachers in the same boat and let&...

My Math School Bag
My Math School Bag. Thursday, September 30, 2010. This math module was indeed an astonishing experience for me. I had never been taught by a male lecturer for all my early childhood modules. If I had Dr Yeap as my math teacher in my secondary school, I believe that I would fare better in math. He had made a difference by changing my impression of math. I had truly enjoyed myself throughout the course. Number of cookies: 1 ¾. Analysis Level 1: Students begin to identify properties of shapes and learn to u...
