コーギーの犬種解説 飼い方 病気 ブリーダー情報. コーギーには、 ウェルシュ コーギー ペンブローク と ウェルシュ コーギー カーディガン の2種類存在します。 犬種名である コーギー とは、イギリスに残るケルト語で 小さい犬 という意味を表します。 １２世紀に入ってから、イギリスの国王 ヘンリー２世が ペンブロークをペットとして飼い始めた事で、 コーギーは王室の犬としての座を射止めます。 日本では、 午後の紅茶 のCM出演がきっかけとなり、 以来人気犬種の仲間入りを果たしています。 2007年のコーギーのJKC登録頭数を見ますと、 ペンブロークが11,198頭、カーディガンが171頭と、圧倒的な差があることから、 日本でみられるコーギーのほとんどはペンブローク種と思われます。 ウェルシュ コーギー カーディガンの歴史は、 ペンブロークと比較するとずっと古い犬種であり、紀元前1200年頃と言われています。 ただ一つ、例外となった事があり、ブリンドル ハーダーとの交配によって、 ハーダー系の影響を受けたのが、 現在のカーディガンのスタイルの基礎となっているようです。
