Disco Details

August 7, 2015. Bull; 4 Comments. Today I thought I would do a short post on the details I’ve been working into the Disco Mario Party cosplay group. My husband suggested that we needed some bling for Mario and Luigi (as if those two won’t be shiny enough already …). Amazon had the perfect thing(s): a red growth mushroom pendant. To match Mario and a green 1Up mushroom. 2 Peach’s Crown. From Amazon since the shapes I need are very standard. Here is a sample shot of her crown. I have hemmed and hawed over ...

August 11, 2016. Bull; 10 Comments. Here we are, about 3 weeks out from DragonCon. I am happy to say my Galactic Gala Captain Phasma dress is complete. If you remember, I was “frankensteining” this dress together from a few different patterns. I used this one for the one shoulder bodice. I also used this pattern as a basis for the…. Read more →. Board Game Review: Praetor. August 3, 2015. Bull; 5 Comments. Our most recent trip to one of the local board game stores resulted in the purchase of a game called Praetor, by Andree Novac. Publisher is NSKN Games and distributor is Spiral Galaxy Games. I’ve never heard of any of these names, but the back of the box sounded promising. The game has both tile placement and…. Read more →. New Board Game Review Metrics

New Board Game Review Metrics. July 31, 2015. Bull; 0 Comments. Over last weekend, I decided with the help of some friends that it is time to revise my board game review process a little. From here on out, I will be rating games along several 10 point dimensions, and then averaging these to get the overall rating. The numbers are still out of 10. Let me tell you about the dimensions. 8211; Does the game immerse the player in its story or theme? Or is the theme a little bit hard to understand? He’s ...

Peach-y Progress
http://www.questsofquirkiness.com/2015/08/10/peach-y-progress
August 10, 2015. Bull; 0 Comments. Since I want my Peach costume to fit over my baby bump, I waited until a couple weeks ago to pattern it out and cut it. I still haven’t begun sewing it, since I am focusing on finishing up Mario. But here is my sketch of the dress…. 8230;and the pattern pieces I made for it. I have been working on the crown for Peach. I have cast some gems out of clear resin, and tinted them turquoise and hot pink with some bright food colors (just 2 drops). This weekend I stitched toge...

Tutorial: (Disco) Mario Brothers’ Hats. August 5, 2015. Bull; 0 Comments. Over last weekend, I worked on the finishing touch for the Mario and Luigi cosplays. For DragonCon – hats! First thing first, I had to make a pattern. Because they will be wearing wigs, I measured my husband’s head circumference with the wig on. Then I did math to figure out the hat opening’s radius and started my pattern. 2 On some pieces, like the applique, you may want to fold the fabric over the Fosshape and tack it down. The g...

Disco Luigi: Only Details Remain. July 29, 2015. Bull; 2 Comments. With the help of my sewing buddies. And my mom, I discovered that the twisting sleeve issue on the disco shirt. Was likely a grainline issue with my fabric. Who knew? Not me, but thankfully Liz. And my Mom both did and suggested the idea to recut. I also opted to ease in the sleeves, only because I didn’t want to also rip out the side seam of the shirt. Do not underestimate the power of my lazy! I will definitely be using this again in th...
