My Ruth Stout Garden

My Ruth Stout Garden. The life story of a vegetable garden as it is created with the Ruth Stout continuous mulch method, to reduce the need for water and work, and produce the healthiest soil possible. Healthy soil is the highest outcome of any gardening effort. Friday, October 31, 2014. Vegetables have much to teach us. Not all experiments succeed. But, I did learn a lot this year. Fall-planting young broccolis in raised pots did not work. Peas in pots did great. My greenhouse cantaloupes also failed.

My Ruth Stout Garden. The life story of a vegetable garden as it is created with the Ruth Stout continuous mulch method, to reduce the need for water and work, and produce the healthiest soil possible. Healthy soil is the highest outcome of any gardening effort. Friday, August 2, 2013. New squirrel in town. I've been trying to make sure I spend some time every mid-day out in that area of the garden, just to make sure the squirrels see me there. They haven't come back. My neighbor said one of them...Orego...

Out in The Garden, Dancing: There's atmosphere in my garden this morning

http://outinthegardendancing.blogspot.com/2015/01/theres-atmosphere-in-my-garden-this.html

Out in The Garden, Dancing. Wednesday, January 28, 2015. There's atmosphere in my garden this morning. The sun broke strongly through the fog this morning and made my garden all bright and fuzzy. Happily, it was warm enough to walk around and pull a few fir branches out of the shrubs, look at my camellias that are blooming two and three months early, and wonder again how many days of branch-breaking it will take to reduce all the blow-down to mulch. Hamamellis Ruby Glow, Miscanthus Zebrinus.

Out in The Garden, Dancing: February 2015

http://outinthegardendancing.blogspot.com/2015_02_01_archive.html

Out in The Garden, Dancing. Thursday, February 5, 2015. A little piece of sky. Basalt basin and Hosoba Fukurin. Yesterday, on my first garden shopping trip of 2015, I found a small one, the first small one I've ever seen! Weighing about 25-30 pounds, it was easy enough for me to get in and out of my car, and place at last in my garden. It's about 10" long and currently holds about half an inch of today's rainwater. If I tip it this way a bit, I think it might hold a full inch. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

Out in The Garden, Dancing: Beauty spots

http://outinthegardendancing.blogspot.com/2014/05/beauty-spots.html

Out in The Garden, Dancing. Monday, May 26, 2014. Another area that took a very long time to shape up is a small patch in back I call the triangle. Everything I planted there except the Bloodgood maple has been very slow growing. It doesn't get much sun and the firs dry that soil out quickly, but it too is finally becoming very nice to look at and easy to maintain. This is the view from the east side. Rhododendron Scintillation, Hosta seiboldiana. Hostas Blue Angel, Sum and Substance. This is a grouping ...

Out in The Garden, Dancing. Wednesday, October 30, 2013. Fall color is here! But I'm way behind on my posting, so this is a long one:. Red Dragon, Miscanthus sinensis Zebrinus, and Hydrangea Merritt's Beauty. This early morning combination of the Zebrinus flowers, the Merritt's Beauty dried flower heads, and red tints of the A. palmatum Red Dragon was irresistible. The big Disanthus showed the most color ever this year, and lots of red. Mixed Panicums and Helictotrichon. I love red leaves in the fall.

Out in The Garden, Dancing: March 2015

http://outinthegardendancing.blogspot.com/2015_03_01_archive.html

Out in The Garden, Dancing. Saturday, March 7, 2015. Welcoming an early Spring. Three in a row—pale pink on the end is Nuccio's Pearl. Last weekend I went with the usual group of plant-loving friends to the first plant expo of the year and as we drove through Portland in the sunshine and warming air, with trees and flowers breaking out in blooms a month early, I made a comment about it being Spring. The driver said, "It's February." I responded, "But this has been going on so long. The bigger they get, t...

http://outinthegardendancing.blogspot.com/2014/05/omgoooooo-my-garden.html

Out in The Garden, Dancing. Wednesday, May 14, 2014. OMG—Oooooo, My Garden! Here's another floppy one. This used to be my favorite, for the deep cerise color. Now I'm not sure any more. Not this year, anyway. But seeing all the upward facing shoots, I'm wondering, since it's all over the ground now, will it start growing up? Or is it convinced it's a ground cover? Rhododendron (unk. var.). Peachy Rhododendron (unk. var.). I finally got BIG snowballs this year! Geum Alabama Slammer and forget-me-nots.

Out in The Garden, Dancing: A year of work and small pleasures

http://outinthegardendancing.blogspot.com/2014/12/a-year-of-work-and-small-pleasures.html

Out in The Garden, Dancing. Sunday, December 21, 2014. A year of work and small pleasures. A low-maintenance pathway in high summer. I went back through my photos this morning to see what I had that I haven't posted, and found some things among the pictures of paintings, mice, and eagles that I can share as a look back on the year. As little time as I spent in it, I did really enjoy it, and rejoiced in how big the older things have grown. Having a clematis finally reach the top of its tuteur:.

Out in The Garden, Dancing. Wednesday, September 18, 2013. I got a nice photo of my Guacamoles today and I don't think I've ever posted them before. They really look great this year, better than ever. I love their colors and vigor and unattractiveness to slugs, especially for green hostas. Sunday, September 15, 2013. Time for Fall Haircuts. Bronze sedges, all trimmed up. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Paint On The Brain — by Patricia Ryan. More inventing = More fun ( Plus, SALE Announcement Below!
