Tables with negative values are. Never. Use negative values for InnoDB auto increment. Assertion failed: next insert id = auto inc interval for cur row.minimum(). Partitioned innodb tables end up with duplicate primary key values! AUTO INCREMENT errors with partitioned InnoDB tables in 5.1.31.

I recently had the pleasure of logging into an AIX 5.3 machine for the first time ever, to debug a corefile. Firstly, having the mysqld binary and core is not enough, unless you have an identical machine on which to study the corefile. Library mismatches can be a problem. Found a very cool and handy utility to recover data from an ntfs drive that was reformatted to FAT32. No need for me to explain the workings the documentation is good. A hand full of standard unix tools and scrounge-ntfs has helped me to recover the data. Scrounge takes a few simple parameters one being the drive to scan and another a destination directory to dump the recovered file. Links to this post.

Lately I keep on running into filenames with spaces and whacky characters at first I renamed them all but they keep on getting into the process queue. So here is how I handle them in shell scripts.
