Early on, your baby’s sense of touch begins to provide information about her environment and plays a significant role in her emotional development. Sucking (touch through the mouth) is known to be especially calming to babies. Some start sucking their thumb in the second trimester! Your baby may want to suck on something but not yet have the coordination to get her thumb to her mouth like she could in the fluidfilled world of the womb. Here’s where a pacifier can help. Talk to baby or read a story aloud in a soft, low voice. If baby seems unsettled, use white noise, such as the sound of a fan to block unnecessary noise and aid soothing. Play soft music, sing a lullaby, or recite nursery rhymes in a soft, low voice. Try each of sweetpeace’s pre-programmed sounds to see what baby prefers, and what soothes him most. Since mom’s scent is most soothing to baby, sleep with some baby blankets before her arrival. Use cloth toys and transfer baby’s familiar scents to them. Sleep with the removable sweetpeace swaddling blanket for a few days so it picks up your scent. Mist the soft terry fabric of the sweetpeace headrest with lavender or chamomile scented spray to soothe baby. The sweetpeace bee-bear is removable and made of soft cloth which holds scent. Transfer familiar, pleasant scents to bee-bear to soothe baby.

Limit visual input and avoid making lots of eye contact. POSSIBLE SIGNS OF OVER-STIMULATION:. Baby has a wide-eyed expression. Baby holds arms up in a high guard position. Baby arches back or twists and turns to. Keep lights soft and dim. Surround baby with calming, neutral colors.
