January 7, 2017. January 7, 2017. Well, with the start of the new year, it seems the latest trend is to pick One Word-instead of resolving goals-to define this upcoming year. One word that retains your focus for the next 365 days. Several of my friends seemed to grasp their word, effortlessly, while I have been sitting here wracking my brain for days. Praying, reading, shaking my head in frustration, until finally I picked a word-that in all honesty, probably doesn’t even count. That’s it. One tiny l...

Life Lessons From An Almost-Two-Year Old | alishabarnett

Life Lessons From An Almost-Two-Year Old. December 6, 2016. This is just another post about how my almost-two year old humbled the socks off me, reminding me this morning of another valuable life lesson. She was in her bathroom standing in front of her miniature-potty, trying to push it closer to the sink to use as a stool, so she could look at herself in the mirror. She was leaning over pushing the stool. She grunted and became frustrated. She threw her hands down at her side, exasperated. 8220;Do you k...

August 11, 2016. When he took them away from me (because in his mind, he was just letting me borrow them) I overreacted. I may have even used the daunting phrase, repeatedly, Indian giver! For the record, I understand now, this is politically incorrect, but as a child I am sure I’d just heard someone use the phrase and eagerly awaited an opportunity to use it myself and the opportunity presented itself). Naïve to claim that I believe all big brothers have their siblings. I think it is safe to say that so...

August 11, 2016. August 11, 2016. Day one: wake up. Day two: wake up, open eyes. Day three: wake up, open eyes, look around. Day four: wake up, open eyes, look around, and see something worth getting up for. Day five: wake up, open eyes, look around, see something worth getting up for, move in that general direction. Day six: wake up, open eyes, look around, see something worth getting up for; move in that general direction fall down. Day seven holds many possibilities. We might decide what we originally...

January 22, 2015. Every day I am learning how to be me. Not the me that the world knows but the me that. That the world knows has been groomed, altered, shaped, and manipulated to fit the criteria of my family, my friends, my boss, my coworkers, my educators and my peers. That the world knows is a fraud. A counterfeit forged at the hands of expectations and acceptance. From the time I was a little girl, (and I would imagine the same is true for you) I sought the validation of others for who I should be.

Just To Start Your Day…. January 9, 2017. January 9, 2017. Ashlenn woke me up this morning, chatting and fussing from her bed. I made my way into her room to “Nuggle” as she likes to call it, when the sweetest thing happened. Normally, she will immediately begin to fuss and beg for “Juice” or “muffins.”. But not this morning. This morning, she took her tiny little hand, placed it on my head and tousled my hair. She softly said, “I love you, Mommy. Good morning.”. There is no better way to begin my day.

July 8, 2016. The past few weeks, Lennox and I have been exploring the idea of selling our condo and looking into finding something a little more suitable to our needs. We are outgrowing our. My husband made the decision to purchase the condo when he was a bachelor and it has served our little family well in the five years we’ve been married…but we aren’t. Lenn’s family has grown by 2.5 people since his decision to purchase this home and his devotion isn’t to the home. But to his family. But this whole p...
