The City is busy working out the details of containing the high cost of remote Alaska living and complying with the new EPA-. Imposed guidelines for drinking water treatment. The plans that were in place earlier this year left the question of capacity expansion to future planning but in September two local canneries requested water flow increases that will add 20% to the demand within a year or two. The majority of the funding should come from an expansion of the existing LT2 grant.

Our streets continue to deteriorate and the focus in 2014 will be to set up a regular resurfacing and maintenance program. It is expected that a combination of paving, chip seal work and a new pavement reconditioning machine will all play parts in the solution. Keep an eye on the City’s website for more information on this and all of the improvements outlined for 2014.
