ClimbOut: Lord Russell
http://climbout.blogspot.com/2005/06/lord-russell.html
Friday, June 03, 2005. He transitioned to Jet Skis and was nationally ranked; traveling the southern circuit and living the hard life of a builder/pilot, (Jet Skis had "pilots", not drivers). He was featured in a full page spread in "Jet Ski" when he and four other crazies went off the ramp together at Cyprus Gardens. He water-skied with a nationally competitive team and performed at shows and raced and boated and generally lived the life. His pale blue eyes held the memory.). Posted by Larry @ 8:56 PM.

ClimbOut: The Downing Street Memo: Part 2
http://climbout.blogspot.com/2005/06/downing-street-memo-part-2.html
Friday, June 17, 2005. The Downing Street Memo: Part 2. The President's words, once again, speak for themselves. The first time President Bush publicly responded to the DSM is quoted below. The juxtaposition of Prime Minister Tony Blair's polished style and The President's unique communication form is particularly poignant. AMY GOODMAN: On June 7, after more than a month of media silence, a reporter for the Reuters news agency finally questioned President Bush and Tony Blair on the Downing Street Memo:.

ClimbOut: Lord Russell (partie deux)
http://climbout.blogspot.com/2005/06/lord-russell-partie-deux.html
Tuesday, June 07, 2005. Lord Russell (partie deux). For the last Christmas that he would share with us, when Rusty was 32, I gave him a lesson with my favorite aerobatics instructor. He explored the world of aerobatic flight in a bright red Pitts S2, a serious little high performance biplane used in competitions. Posted by Larry @ 7:35 PM. Monday, September 19, 2005. McCartney is No Longer Young. Or: "How attending an iconic pop-rock concert almost became a meditation on mortality.". And we were not disappointed. I finally stopped observing and started participating when Paul sat down at his piano. He didn't play all of my favorites, how could he? Posted by Larry @ 12:03 AM. ClimbOut: My Grandfather, the Pilot
http://climbout.blogspot.com/2005/10/my-grandfather-pilot.html
Sunday, October 16, 2005. My Grandfather, the Pilot. Dad moved to Alabama in 1995, and Granddad once asked if he could tag along on one of my flights to visit him. I was surprised to learn that Olin had a serious interest in flying and that one of his few regrets was that he never earned his pilot’s license. We made several visits over the next four years and Olin proved to be very comfortable behind the yoke of the Mooney. That was to be Granddad’s last flight. He died a month later, his life spanni...

ClimbOut: Parking Lot

Sunday, July 17, 2005. I wish I could say that I remember his face clearly, but I can't. He was young but looked old, and he was thin in an unhealthy kind of way. What I will never forget is the harsh machinery sound that his heart made while we waited. This went on for several hours. Posted by Larry @ 3:07 AM. ClimbOut: The Joy of Flying
http://climbout.blogspot.com/2005/06/joy-of-flying.html
Tuesday, June 21, 2005. The Joy of Flying. Any number of human endeavors may produce the same kind of exhilaration and joy in their practitioners that flying does for me. Regardless of my bias, I intellectually accept at some level that flying. Not be the highest form of human expression. Perhaps having a passion is more important that having a particular passion. The thing about passions is that they inevitably require sacrifice. As the Fox told the Little Prince. Posted by Larry @ 4:17 AM. When once yo...

ClimbOut: Night Shift
http://climbout.blogspot.com/2005/06/night-shift.html
Monday, June 27, 2005. Like my father before me, for a serious portion of my professional life, I worked the night shift full time. In my case, that career enhancing choice (not! Lasted almost 17 years. I still work three or four night shifts each month, but now I am a visitor while once upon a time I was something more. One Christmas I designed these silk-screened tee shirts for everyone in my crew. You had to love it or you could not survive the pathos and abuse that made up every shift. The night shif...
