Nagasaki Field Science: Omura bay sampling

This blog highlights the academic and scientific activity of the students in a special 5-year PhD program of the Department of Marine Science at Nagasaki University. Wednesday, October 16, 2013. We went to Omura bay for sampling. on August 2 This was fifth times, in Omura bay in this year. And we got 20 sediment cores by scuba diving. However I didn’t get sediment core samples by myself. After sampling, we sliced top of the sediment cores and stored for later analyzation.

Research cruise in East China Sea. From May 27 to 29 and from June 3 to 5, I went on a research cruise on the Kakuyo-maru. Though it was very stormy and we had some trouble, I was able to obtain many samples of plankton and conduct CTD casts. On the next cruise, I hope to obtain some samples of juveniles.

Research cruise for Kagoshima prefecture. Because our last research cruise was canceled, I joined a cruise for Kagoshima prefecture on the Kakuyo-maru from July 22 to 25. I was able to obtain samples of plankton, samples of fish juveniles and conduct CTD casts. She collected the poisonous seaweed Chondria armata.

Here is the place where mudskippers live. In the river near by the Ariake bay of Saga Prefecture. Mudskippers stay for a long time out of water during low tide.
