Sunday, 9 March 2014. The Neuras Guide to Catching a Cheetah. Our core aims here at Neuras are to monitor the resident carnivore populations in the area and work with the local livestock farmers in order to mitigate human/carnivore conflict. An essential part of this process is to trap the resident carnivores and place GPS radio collars on them to enable the intensive study of their movements and behaviour. Kills; a female Kudu. Lightning the Leopard's latest kill. Trapping a wild carnivore is not easy, ...

A bit about me. Saturday, March 8, 2014. Protest the Hero - "Dunsel". Dunsel," by progressive metal forerunners Protest the Hero, explores the darker side of being signed to a record label in the music industry. After three albums with the labels Vagrant and Underground Operations, the band decided to forgo all label support and instead reach to their fans to crowd-fund their newest album. In a revealing video. Time stamps are from the first video.). 0:00 - 0:36 ( 5:13 in drums-only version. A steady for...

Neuras: N/a'an ku se Wine and Wildlife Estate: History
http://neuraswine.blogspot.com/p/history_02.html
In the local Koikoi language, Neuras means the "place of abandoned water". Neuras owes its early existence as a farm to the presence of several crystal clear cold-water springs and dates back to 1894. The farm extends southwards from the top of the majestic Naukluft Mountains and is typical of the pro-Namib geological and natural environment. Not only did Allan and Sylvia rehabilitate the vines and gardens, they also started conserving the fauna and flora of Neuras which had been taken over by invader bu...

Neuras: N/a'an ku se Wine and Wildlife Estate: Lightning Update
http://neuraswine.blogspot.com/2015/02/lightning-update.html
Friday, 13 February 2015. Our resident GPS-collared female leopard "Lightning", ( Africa's longest studied leopard. Has continued to be a remarkable ambassador for her species here in the Namib region of Namibia. Analysis of her kill sites over the past few months have revealed Springbok, Zebra, Aardwolf, Kudu and Klipspringer prey items and still, importantly, not one case of livestock predation. Zebra carcass killed by Lightning hanging in a tree. It is great to have such good images of her and they sh...

Neuras: N/a'an ku se Wine and Wildlife Estate: January 2015
http://neuraswine.blogspot.com/2015_01_01_archive.html
Saturday, 24 January 2015. Thanks for an amazing week! It's been a blast tracking Lightning and checking over 8000 photos worth of twigs and branches on a camera trap, imagining both pigs and cave trolls at the end! Thanks to Noodle for being an ungrateful little "toe rag" (edited for younger readers! Matt), but I still love your style :) Same goes to the other four legged staff members. Being one minute late too late to the top of Big Daddy - this probably means I'll have come back to beat the record!

Matt's African Adventure: March 2011
http://cleverleydoesit.blogspot.com/2011_03_01_archive.html
Tuesday, 15 March 2011. The month of February saw a three week period that was without a doubt the most demanding I have experienced during my time at CCF. I have never known a series of events like it and sadly the outcome has seen us loose two of our cats. To cut a very long story short these three weeks included the following:. Three cats in three separate pens going missing requiring pens to be searched on foot. Two cats with swollen ankles requiring isolation and medication. The collection of the bo...

Saturday, 7 January 2012. Suarez vs Evra: A Modern Day Witch Hunt. I wrote a blog in September last year about the depressing rise in people who believe the utter nonsense that the 9/11 attacks were orchestrated by some sort of government conspiracy. 8220;There HAS to be some truth if so many believe it”. BOOM and so it begins. Racism is the big topic of choice and all eyes of the media fall on not the England captain but Luis Suarez. You know, " the weasel faced, hand balling cheat of the world ...Even ...

Friday, 18 November 2011. Nestle: Born and Died a Free Cat. We received the sad news from Erindi Game Reserve two days ago that Nestle, one of the chocolate sisters we helped release into Erindi was found dead. As of yet the cause of death is unknown, although as a wild cheetah there are numerous possibilities. She could have been killed by lions, snake bite, illness or sustained a fatal injury whilst hunting. During observation of the coalition in Bellebenno it appeared that Nestle was the ‘lowest...
