After a very successful walk, the balance of the money raised for the Nan Lyle cairn was sent to. The Nan Lyle Academy in Kenya and to Mulamba for the nurses house. The money sent to Mulamba was used to buy solar lights for the nurses home - as Chris McClare the project manager said. Nan's light is still shining! A very fitting tribute to a very special lady.

June 2011 was the day the memory of a Hawick legend was honoured. Over 145 people joined the Nan Lyle Cairn walk from Hawick Moor to the top of a hill near Whitchesters. Once there Ron Sutherland of Borders Exploration Group spoke about the reason that everyone had gathered together -. The spot selected is very appropriate as the 360 degrees. 2 Good Causes

Some background information on the two good causes that Nan sent her collections to. Both resulted from her trips with Borders Exploration Group. The CuCu Nan Lyle (MBE, PHF) Academy. Nan and the BEG team helped to build a school in Kenya during the 1997 expedition. She was asked to unveil the plaque at the grand opening and was rendered speechless when she saw that they’d named the school after her. This was one of her proudest moments. Nan saved money for the community hospital.
