Negative, dysfunctional, or “maladaptive” thinking affects your sense of self, behavior, and even physical state. Maladaptive thoughts can lead to mindless or impulsive behaviors, anxiety, and depression in a downward spiral. The goal of therapy is for you to learn to recognize maladaptive patterns of thoughts and behaviors and replace them with healthier ways of thinking, feeling and doing.
