Nancy's Reading Corner

A book is like a garden carried in the pocket. Chinese proverb. Monday, November 11, 2013. Simple Stories with Great Illustrations. I first checked out Giant John, not thinking that it was going to be great, but I knew Arnold Lobel was a good author/illustrator (The Frog and The Toad). Jack absolutely LOVED this story and I read it over and over for the 3 weeks we had it from the library. I'm not really sure why he loved it so much, but it's a simple read, repetitious and has fun illustrations. I don't w...

Nancy's Reading Corner: December 2009

http://www.nancypitney.blogspot.com/2009_12_01_archive.html

A book is like a garden carried in the pocket. Chinese proverb. Sunday, December 13, 2009. A colleague of mine gave me this book last year, thinking I might enjoy reading it. Well, I finally got around to reading it and I did really enjoy it. Daphne du Maurier wrote it in 1939 I believe. She also wrote "The Birds" (movie by Alfred Hitchcock). Apparently, Alfred Hitchcock made Rebecca into a movie too, so I'm going to have to check it out on Netflix. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). View my complete profile.

A book is like a garden carried in the pocket. Chinese proverb. Wednesday, January 9, 2013. We made our monthly trip to the library today and I was reminded of some books that have been our favorites. These books are both part of a series and neither one has any words, so it makes the illustrations that much better because they completely tell the story. The Adventures of Polo. Nancy's Reading Corner: A couple favorites from the past couple weeks

http://www.nancypitney.blogspot.com/2013/01/a-couple-favorites-from-past-couple.html

A book is like a garden carried in the pocket. Chinese proverb. Monday, January 28, 2013. A couple favorites from the past couple weeks. This first book I think Jack has made us read to him every night since we got it. I have to admit that the illustrations are amazing! The book, Block City. By Robert Louis Stevenson is actually a poem. Do you recognize the author's name? He wrote Treasure Island. The second book I am not so fond of, but Jack loves. Maybe it's because his name is in the title? All the bo...

http://www.nancypitney.blogspot.com/2011_03_01_archive.html

A book is like a garden carried in the pocket. Chinese proverb. Thursday, March 24, 2011. Girl With a Pearl Earring. I read a book of Tracy Chevalier's last year. See here. I enjoyed that book and so was expecting to enjoy this one as well. She did not disappoint. I actually read this book on Rusty's kindle. It's an older book (written in 1996 if I remember right), and so it was only $3 on the kindle. It was fun to read this way, especially considering the type of story this is. It is written as a fictio...

http://kacdiary.blogspot.com/2010_11_01_archive.html

Friday, November 12, 2010. This has been a long process and still is not over. I never thought it would take me this long to feel better and back to normal( at least what I think is normal). I had a stress echo done the middle of October. Which I finished, the results were okay. As my doctor put it, I did fine. Could I have done better? I did get to go to Portland last weekend and visit Patrick and Alyssa, I had a great time! I will have to post some pictures and write about it a little later.
