About — Nancy Vo

http://www.nancyvo.com/about

Nancy Vo is an illustrator and picture book maker. She lives in the Great White North (aka Canada) with her husband and children. Nancy's children also like to draw pictures of her with pinker teeth and longer eyelashes than she actually has. Canucks would agree that the cold climate gives you a rosier complexion.

Illustration Blog: I'm Back...

http://nvoitsadraw.blogspot.com/2016/09/im-back.html

Maurice" cut out from Stonehenge paper. And apparently cutting out letters backwards. This is not even an illustration, but it is the one creative thing that I have on my desk at the moment. Yes, it has been a long stretch since the last post from August. I have been busy, but in a good way. The exciting news that I haven't shared a whole lot on-line is that Groundwood Books. Will be publishing, The Outlaw. And her team at Groundwood. It's been great! The book is scheduled for release in Fall 2018. I lik...

Illustration Blog: More 'edgehogs

http://nvoitsadraw.blogspot.com/2016/06/more-edgehogs.html

Gesso over ink, ink washes, pen, collage. My kids were showing me their MineCraft "skins", which are basically surfaces that you can add to differentiate your player from other players. I feel like I've applied skins in drawing three different version of 'edgehogs. It's been an interesting exercise. The first version is in the previous post. And a new favourite ballpoint pen, MUJI, discovered while chatting with comic artist at VanCAF:. 19 June 2016 at 04:33. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

Illustration Blog: Plagued

http://nvoitsadraw.blogspot.com/2016/10/boo.html

Sorry, no illustrations today. But I learned how to sew leather. It involves special needles, punches, grommets, and patience. This year, my eldest wanted to be a plague doctor for Halloween. My reference was an engraving from 17th century Rome. The beak was filled with herbs that supposedly protected the doctor from "putrid" air. It usually didn't work out for the doctors. Here they are, ready to go - plague doctor and death. Not such a cheery looking pair are they? Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

Illustration Blog: 'edgehogs

http://nvoitsadraw.blogspot.com/2016/05/edgehogs.html

Watercolour, ink, acetone transfer. Found a pencil sketch in my sketchbook and decided to turn it into a finished drawing. Used the usual palette of phthalo turquoise, quinacridone gold, and burnt umber. 16 June 2016 at 04:38. I think this is delightful. It reminds me of childrens books when I was a kid :). Illustration Blog: Going into 2017 with...

http://nvoitsadraw.blogspot.com/2017/01/going-into-2017-with.html

Going into 2017 with. Scene from Star Wars: Rogue One (RIP, Carrie Fisher). And now we're on the cusp of another new year. This will be the first new post of 2017. Let's start with something from the sketchbook, drawn at the airport. Thumbprint Jyn, pencil Jyn. Strong female characters like Jyn Erso are great fun to draw. See last year's Rey here. Happy new year, everyone. Stay creative. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). View my complete profile. There was an error in this gadget.

Illustration Blog: From the Archives

http://nvoitsadraw.blogspot.com/p/from-archives.html

This is art work done around 6-17 B.C. (Before Children) In other words, a long, long time ago. Mixed media on paper. Pencil on gesso and fabric. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). I like to draw and make stuff. Always have. However, I do not get to do this often enough. So I think of it as my alter-ego, undercover, super-hero work. You will likely find posts going up at ungodly hours, when I actually have the time to draw and make stuff. Thanks for visiting! View my complete profile.

Illustration Blog: Meet Maurice

http://nvoitsadraw.blogspot.com/2016/07/meet-maurice.html

Version 1 - pen and watercolour. Version 2 - collage and china marker. A number of us took the plunge and signed up for Lisa Cinar. S excellent and intense Picture Book II course. In the first couple classes, we spent most of our time on writing exercises. First, we were shown images and asked to write for 20 minutes on each. A lot of what I wrote went straight into the trash can, but there was a rough gem in a piece called, Maurice. 31 July 2016 at 06:07. I like things about both images :).

Illustration Blog: Emote This!

http://nvoitsadraw.blogspot.com/2016/08/characters-and-emotion.html

At the SCBWI conference in LA, we had a stellar team leading the illustrators intensive. We explored characters through emotions, body language, and Muppets. We were asked to really look at what we were drawing and to translate authentically, whether it be through an animal or a pair of boots. The workshop took place in the Biltmore Hotel's Crystal Ballroom. So if we were stuck, we could always draw the architecture. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). View my complete profile.

Ordinary Miracles & The Crazy 10

Papa and Crazy Me. Tuesday, April 10, 2018. On one of the days, we met up with my friend, Anita who lives outside Amsterdam, and asked her to show us around someplace a little off the beaten path. This crazy but amazing castle, De Haar Castle. Is where she took us. First off, it's picture perfect with it's spires, gorgeous gardens and moat! But it's also kinda a fake! Seems it was quite the gather spots for celebs like Brigitte Bardot and Coco Chanel and Roger Moore to name a few! Visiting the castle and...

Nancy Voak Art

Tuesday, 17 December 2013. Great Grey Owl Snowscene. This painting was done for the EWW group Christmas competition. In total 16 artists submitted work on the subject of snow and 22 people voted. Two artists came joint first and another two came joint third. I was one of the joint third! So I am very pleased. Tuesday, 10 December 2013. Here are a couple of Christmas Frogs to bring seasonal cheer. Looking at the Fairy Frog here has made me think I'm going to give her a little golden crown. 20 x 50 cm.
