去过北少林的人知道，嵩山少林寺北靠五乳峰，寺前有条小溪 少溪河 自右向左流过，河对面为少室山，寺右侧有塔林，右前方有 卧佛山 ，左前方为九顶莲花寨。 林山的林泉院，它背靠祖 朱 山等几个小山头，院前也有一条小溪从右向左流过 现为护寺河。 院右侧有塔尹 今为塔里，塔西自然村 ，寺院右前方也有一座 卧佛山 当地叫它为弥勒献图山、石面桶 ，寺院左前方有九叶莲花峰。 在林泉院遗址上重建的南少林寺四周山头海拔在600米左右，最高峰为北部的祖山 又称朱山，与明亡后天地会拥戴的反清复明精神领袖朱太子有关 ，高642.1米，西部大舞寨600.2米，东部山头尾576.6米，南部斜仑595.5米，紫霄峰559米，南少林寺对面巨岩 石面桶 卧佛山 576.6。 附近的资福寺建筑大多已毁，现存一室，建于光绪二十四年 1898年 ，内有一对石刻对联 云日就瞻祝无量寿，天人欢喜演上乘禅 ，为宣统皇帝的老师陈宝琛敬书。 此外，这里相传的 千灵祖师斗山魈建苦竹寺 、 佛光创建霞梧院 、 吉星侍卫 、 五百僧造反 等故事道出了一处处历史典故。
