Flying Totems: sputter
http://flyingtotems.blogspot.com/2015/07/sputter.html
Thursday, July 30, 2015. There was a quick blackout earlier tonight. All the lights and everything else electric went off and spent a few seconds out before returning. It was a blinand-you'll-miss-it affair. Still unsettling, though. For a few seconds it felt like an angry mob might come running through the streets. And me without a thing to wear. Its always a bit disconcerting when the power goes out, isnt it. Doesnt take long for that atavistic element to show its face either. July 31, 2015 at 7:27 PM.

Flying Totems: Emperorical evidence
http://flyingtotems.blogspot.com/2015/07/emperorical-evidence.html
Tuesday, July 28, 2015. I'm reading a book now about Joshua A. Norton. Also known as Emperor Norton I. Whom I've found an interesting subject for awhile. First encountered him as a character in an issue of Neil Gaiman's Sandman. Comics and wasn't sure if he was real at first. He was, although he got fictionalized quite a bit, serving as the model for the Dauphin in Mark Twain's Huckleberry Finn. It was Jer who remembered Emperor Norton Records. Ladytron was just one of their bands. At times, yes, at times.

Flying Totems: February 2015
http://flyingtotems.blogspot.com/2015_02_01_archive.html
Saturday, February 28, 2015. Cheyenne Saturday Random Ten. Currently in the homestretch of reading Thomas Berger's Little Big Man. It's a very funny book and as good a story of belonging to/being torn between two cultures as I've read. Berger's style in this is very reminiscent of Mark Twain. Of course when it was first published Twain was taken to task for exposing the nation's youth to filth and vulgarity. Imagine what those critics would have thought of this. 1 The Band - To Kingdom Come. Then I short...

Flying Totems: July 2015
http://flyingtotems.blogspot.com/2015_07_01_archive.html
Friday, July 31, 2015. Shadowy Friday Random Ten (sorry). Tonight I watched Shadows. It's the first film directed by John Cassavetes. The all-improvised nature of the movie may have given it a few longueurs, as even at under an hour and a half it drags in some places. On the other hand the jazz score is very evocative, and some scenes are pretty compelling. Biggest treat for me is seeing Tom Reese - Sgt Velie on the ol' Ellery Queen. Series - as a sort of philosophical hoodlum. 1 Finn Riggins - Furs.

Flying Totems: As the Friday Random Ten plays with a ball of yarn...
http://flyingtotems.blogspot.com/2015/08/as-friday-random-ten-plays-with-ball-of.html
Friday, August 7, 2015. As the Friday Random Ten plays with a ball of yarn. The cat dies. Yes, it's a spoiler, but if you go in thinking anything else will happen, it will be too depressing to endure. There's a whole gamut of potential responses to the film Goliath. Is as hard to watch as what happens to him, but all things considered not a surprise. On a lighter note, Goliath. Show a much stranger and more impressive side of Asian fetish porn than I've seen elsewhere. 1 David Bowie - Starman. Nice, very...

Flying Totems: March 2015
http://flyingtotems.blogspot.com/2015_03_01_archive.html
Tuesday, March 31, 2015. For the record I have a little more confidence in Trevor Noah. Now Or perhaps I should say #trevornoah. When they first announced he was taking over The Daily Show. I figured that he was a typical submissive, Economist. Reading TED talk kind of media figure, and I'm still not entirely convinced he's not. Still, having seemingly all of social media jump down his throat for mildly offensive jokes does add some texture. Monday, March 30, 2015. Sunday, March 29, 2015. 8 Elvis Costell...

Flying Totems: August 2015
http://flyingtotems.blogspot.com/2015_08_01_archive.html
Sunday, August 30, 2015. Don't get hung up on grudges, because your enemies are all doomed anyway. As are your friends. As are you. Hey, it's something you can count on. Friday, August 28, 2015. Friday Random Ten - The Real Thing™. Tonight I watched One, Two, Three. This is the Billy Wilder movie where James Cagney plays a Coca Cola executive in West Berlin. It's not Wilder's best, which depending on day and hour I'd say is either The Apartment. Or Some Like It Hot. 2 XTC - Paper and Iron. A Dick in time.

Flying Totems: Puddle update
http://flyingtotems.blogspot.com/2015/08/puddle-update.html
Tuesday, August 4, 2015. Hope the trees didn't really feel it. We had a similar storm that night, but thankfully no trees were down on Wednesday morning. I too hope they dont feel it when they fall. Its been the first summer since weve been here that weve had very little hot and humid weather. I like it. August 6, 2015 at 7:43 PM. As far as hot and humid weve had a little more since August started. Not too incredible, though. Glad the storm didnt cause too much damage. August 14, 2015 at 11:58 PM.
