After breakfast at the lodge, Idi, Yusuf, the Scandanavians, and I loaded the pickup and were off. The Nathan Bailey Project. February 6, 2008 at 3:25 pm ( Uncategorized. I’m Nathan. I’m from Chicago in the US, but I’m spending my year off between high school and college in East Africa. Next fall, I’ll be a freshman at Columbia University in New York. Till then, I’ll be blogging about my volunteer experiences on Pemba Island off the coast of Tanzania. First though, I’ll tell you about my last few months in Kenya. My plan for the year was to help set up a project in Kenya similar to GVI, called Sukuma.

The Nathan Bailey Project. June 9, 2008 at 12:19 pm ( Uncategorized. Juma’s house isn’t actually completed, which is very common here. People have to build brick by brick, and sometimes they have to wait awhile till they have enough money for the next brick. We ate on a mat in the middle of the incomplete part, which was basically just four half-complete walls with a dirt floor and no ceiling.
