Domestic chaos at its finest. Asymp; Leave a comment. In my own head at least, I’m the world’s least sentimental person. Years of frequent moving in my misspent youth taught the hard lesson that anything you get attached to can be lost, used against you, or taken from you. Even if you do manage to hang on to something special, you’re just going to have to keep moving it. The more attachments, the heavier the load. Makes 3-5 dozen. You can easily halve the quantities, but WHY? 2 tsp baking powder. 2tbsp u...

Domestic chaos at its finest. Grandma’s Molasses Crackles. Asymp; Leave a comment. Grandma’s Molasses Crackles. 2 tsp baking soda. 1/2 teaspoon each of ground cloves, ground ginger and salt. Granulated sugar for rolling. Cream together molasses, shortening, sugar and egg. Sift all dry ingredients and blend into wet to form a soft, sticky dough. CHILL- I recommend at least two hours. Unchilled dough makes flat cookies that don’t crackle. Larr; Previous post. Next post →. Leave a Reply Cancel reply. Dresse...

Domestic chaos at its finest. Loaded Leek and Potato Soup (Facebook import) Not Vegan. Asymp; 1 Comment. It’s cold and I’ve decided never to leave the house ever again. So now it’s on to ‘Loaded Leek and Potato Soup’. This one isn’t vegan. It’s really, really not vegan. Like I’d have to try to make it less vegan. Maybe serve it in leather bowls and garnish each with a whole cow…. 3-5 large-ish leeks sliced (white and light green bits only). 1 tbsp all purpose flour. 4 cups cold milk. If you did it right,...

The Dorian Era: April 2014

Couldn't figure out what to do for a midlife crisis. Had a baby. Wednesday, 30 April 2014. Burning Up On Reentry. Or At Least A Trajectory Adjustment. I'm a little depressed just at this moment just because my direct manager hasn't been around to get my email yet, and the co-manager for the fitness team responded with a terse "Sure, whatever, good luck" sort of message, but I'm trying to believe that's just a factor of answering a complicated email mid-day on a blackberry with other things to do.

Couldn't figure out what to do for a midlife crisis. Had a baby. Friday, 21 June 2013. 4 Months And Counting. Don't get used to posts 2 days running! I couldn't let the day go by without a "Happy Solstice, y'all", and a note that it's Dorian's 4-month birthday. I didn't manage to actually have her on an astronomically significant date or Pagan holiday, but we've got an offset of a round number of months from the Solstices and equinoxes. Couldn't figure out what to do for a midlife crisis. Had a baby. Thursday, 16 January 2014. Well, Happy New Year, everyone, a bit late (as seems usual for me nowadays). Late December, showing of some Xmas jammies she was given. My return to the working world is looming, as I'm starting to make arrangements and deal with paperwork for that, and relatedly, for placing Dorian in day care in only a few short weeks, for her foreseeable future. I'm finding it all stressful. As my LSG mammas say, I "hav...There...

Couldn't figure out what to do for a midlife crisis. Had a baby. Friday, 1 November 2013. Dorian hit 36 weeks yesterday - photo to come, to be added to the Dorian-a-Week gallery (ping me if you want that photo area of Adam's Gallery), and has sometime this week passed a probably meaningless milestone. That is, another milestone for me. She's now been out in the world longer than she was gestating. Hope to have more photos to show after that. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). I guess I am in no danger of joining the "mommy blogger" ranks in any credible way (OK with that, really). I'm enjoying this very much, while still shaking my head wondering where my baby went. The Dorian Era: Separation Anxiety. Or, Not Really.

http://www.dorianera.com/2014/01/separation-anxiety-or-not-really.html

Couldn't figure out what to do for a midlife crisis. Had a baby. Tuesday, 21 January 2014. Separation Anxiety. Or, Not Really. Adam picked her up at the end of the day, and apparently that wound up being the only time for some tears - she didn't want to leave, of course! That resolved soon enough, and by the time I got home from the gym she was fed and happily rattling her baby-cage bars here at home. We finished our evening with a bubble bath together, and some stories and snuggles as she fell asleep.

Couldn't figure out what to do for a midlife crisis. Had a baby. Sunday, 21 July 2013. Five Months Gone, A Lifetime Ahead. Happy 5-month Birthday to my baby girl - wow, where does the time go? Five calendar months, or 21 weeks, 3 days today. I have once again been trying to get a post done for a couple of weeks, and surprise surprise, I've been suffering badly from Interrupting Baby. That's OK. She's still largely delightful and I love spending my time with her. Oh, and at 19 weeks, we had this:. I'll ge...
