nativearthling: September 2008
http://nativearthling.blogspot.com/2008_09_01_archive.html
The traffic tears past so loudly-. Such hurry at eleven at night. In the quiet before dawn this morning. The Great Horned Owl. Offered his deep, organ-pipe comment-. Then Barred Owl countered with his nine notes. And they spoke back and forth-. The reassuring repetition between two old friends. It was a long time since I'd heard their voices. The owls offered comfort,. Affirmed the strange orderliness of the unscheduled world,. Held stillness in the hollow of a sound. I slipped into sleep.

The contrary human mind: A missed good-bye, 6 mosquitoes, and a son’s broken finger later, I am sitting, cheerful as a duck. It’s possibly my last night here with electricity, so I have the balcony Xmas lights on:. Green red yellow green yellow yellow blue. Maybe it was the yoga facing the lights making my spine happy, or learning our son was ok after a few hours in ER. Good news after bad more exhilerating than good news alone. It’s been a good space. I remember that this is what I want to do. To ex...

Gyroscope was the analogy the Shintaido teacher used for the distribution of energy within. Minimal motion of the external body, the energy shift occuring inside. The next week, he had us running around and around the gym, raising, then lowering our wood swords as we ran. At first we were all in synch, moving at the same time in the same way, in single file. Then people passed me, I passed others, some slowed to a stumbling walk. More laps the teacher wanted, and we kept moving. The sun and the moon.

Friday, November 30, 2007. Thursday, November 29, 2007. 8230;The little path is welcoming. On either side, the leaves listen attentively. Each leaf, each flower is an ear. Crimson foxgloves stand tall to listen and understand…". From Call Me by My True Names. A book of poems by Thich Nhat Hanh. Wednesday, November 28, 2007. 8217; And then he brought the plate from behind his back. On it were hundreds of tiny fishes. Then he moved the plate behind his back again, and they were gone.". Measure of a Man:.

Thursday, October 30, 2008. I've been packing all week to move. It's taken much more time and energy than I anticipated, perhaps in part because oddly I don't know what I'm to do from here. This afternoon, I ran into a stray journal, a thick, unlined double-spiraled notebook. Before I put it away with the others, I sat on the bottom step and opened it to see what was inside. On April 20, 2007, I wrote:. As I read the words, sunlight flowed through the window into my eyes. I felt relief. And no, I did not...

Monday, March 31, 2008. Saturday, March 29, 2008. Quanah Talmadge "Billy" Tubb). When we waltz together, my world's in disguise. A fairyland tale that's come true,. And when you look at me with those stars in your eyes,. I could waltz across Texas with you. I could waltz across Texas with you in my arms. Waltz across Texas with you;. Like a storybook ending I'm lost in your charms. I could waltz across Texas with you. My troubles and heartaches are all up and gone. The moment you came into view;. I think...

Monday, December 31, 2007. A freeze is coming this way, so I’ve been picking oranges and grapefruit like mad, hundreds of them from just two trees. Coral-colored azaleas in bloom around town may suffer, but they have been a pleasure while they've lasted. Sunday, December 30, 2007. There is Archbishop Desmond Tutu on TV, at the very end of an interview by Bill Moyers. I have never seen a human like that, talking like that. I’ve never seen hands or eyes like that, or heard a voice like his. A pair of giants.

Thursday, January 31, 2008. Wednesday, January 30, 2008. Fascination with danger benefits us, if danger doesn't strike us dead. Monday, January 28, 2008. Sunday, January 27, 2008. Saturday, January 26, 2008. S1600-h/April 07 Omaha Beach 063.jpg". I see I don't see. Friday, January 25, 2008. Life is a sport with mystifying plays, hazards and a colorful cast of characters. Maybe someone keeps score, maybe not. Somebody's cheering you on. Thursday, January 24, 2008. Hector Giacomelli (French, 1822-1904),.

Friday, February 29, 2008. Like a gold star. Pressed to the back of your hand. By a Greater Teacher. Thursday, February 28, 2008. The moment of ‘ping! Like a single chime. A flash of light. A breakthrough. In Shintaido practice, there are movements where no physical contact is made. Perhaps you bring your wood sword down and forward toward a partner. Perhaps you even run toward each other, and past each other. Or there is eiko dai where you run through your own personal breakthrough. The local paper....

Friday, January 30, 2009. Between this moment on Chenery:. And this moment (on Church? It went pop, pop, pop. I mentioned idowhaticansnapsnap because, like several other photoblogs, it seemed to effortlessly generate improbable connections. I thought I'd write about that funny timing phenomenon some day. Well, some day's arrived sooner than planned. There came a synchronicity within a synchronicity today, soon after and oddly entwined with the last entry posted here. It's all about love. Sunday, June 29, 2008. The faded seats of the train car. A man's gray hair. The gray slats of the shelf above him. Holding up black luggage. The wind through an open window. Causes a paper flyer. To flutter against the slats. The breeze cools my bare arm. Light against the narrow silver watchband. Just for a moment. Thursday, June 26, 2008. Sit in the shade. Of a cafe on a warm day,. The red, white, green-. Tomatoes, cheese, basil-. On a round white plate. Wednesday, June 25, 2008. Monday, June 23, 2008.
