Nature Watch

Return to the Museum of Life and Science homepage. January 2, 2017. Near the Wetlands, and next to an American holly loaded with berries, stands a sapling elm tree. There are many such trees here at the Museum. But, as I walked past this particular pair of arboreal specimens I noticed several clusters of passerine contour feathers stuck to the thin branches of the small, bare elm. Most of the feathers were white, some had rufus colored centers. What happened here? December 29, 2016. December 28, 2016.

A Glimpse of the Past | Nature Watch

http://www.natureblog.org/a-glimpse-of-the-past

Return to the Museum of Life and Science homepage. December 26, 2016. A Glimpse of the Past. I was walking down the path that leads from Catch the Wind to Explore the Wild on the far side of that half mile exhibit loop. I glanced to my right and noticed a small tan-colored object dangling from a twig on a hornbeam, or ironwood, tree on the right side of the path, chrysalis. The tree is very close to a patch of partridge pea, which is host to cloudless sulphur butterflies in late summer and fall. Leave a ...

Return to the Museum of Life and Science homepage. December 29, 2016. If you’ve been following events here at the Museum you no doubt already know that we have a new female red wolf. She came to us from Reflection Riding Arboretum and Nature Center in Chattanooga, TN back in November with the hopes of breeding with our male red wolf. Male red wolf quenches his thirst. Female having a walk about. The wolves are seen together often (female, right). Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window).

Animal of the Week. How YOU Can Help. Wednesday, September 16, 2015. The Haze. Again. So, here we are again. It's fall, school's back, and things couldn't be better. Except for one small detail. School's not the only thing back-the Haze is too. Even though I'm not in Singapore now, it frustrates me that you Singaporeans can't see anything out your windows, or go outside without a mask on. So what is this famous Haze? The actual monster behind this Haze is the non-sustainable farming used to grow these oi...

natureblog93 – Nature, Politics, and Blogging

Nature, Politics, and Blogging. The day that Donald Trump becomes President, he will be in violation of the emoluments clause. The emoluments clause is the part of the constitution that says: … “No person holding any Office of Profit or Trust … shall, without the Consent of the Congress, accept of any present, Emolument, Office, or Title, of any kind whatever, from any King, Prince or foreign State”. The bottom line is that Donald Trump must decide whether he wants to be the President, or an Inn-Keeper.
