A thirst for nature in Thirsk, North Yorkshire. Saturday, 15 March 2014. Owls have been a bit thin on the ground, but after locating a pair of Tawny Owls on Tuesday evening, I only have Little Owl left for the year list. I saw SEO on Cowpen Marsh a few weeks ago and Barn Owl on Greenabella Marsh. This LEO was taken at RSPB Saltholme recently. One day I might see a Snowy Owl. I thought this winter might have been the one. 15 March 2014 at 23:31. Good shot, we still need short eared and barn owls. David's ...

A thirst for nature in Thirsk, North Yorkshire. Monday, 24 December 2012. Buff-bellied Pipit, Berkshire. There was a bonus cast of three Ring-necked Parakeets, two Red Kites and a Common Buzzard to keep everyone entertained, plus a small flock of Siskins around the car park. It was good to catch up with Andy Walker on the day. You can read his blog here. Now back to the Christmas festivities. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Thirsk, North Yorkshire, United Kingdom. A thirst for nature in Thirsk, North Yorkshire. Saturday, 3 January 2015. Saltholme with the kids. I had a bit of a wander with my two daughters today around Saltholme then up to the creek to see the seals. Stumbled across a Common Chiffchaff presumably overwintering around the verge between the visitor centre and the wildlife watchpoint and was able to photograph it from the hide on the fence to the left of the feeders. 16 May 2016 at 19:41. This is an awesome motivating article.I am practically sat...

cliftonbirding: Breeding Bee-eaters
http://cliftonbirding.blogspot.com/2015/08/breeding-bee-eaters.html
Tuesday, 4 August 2015. At the back end of last week news was released of some Bee-eaters. Breeding in a quarry at Brampton near Carlisle, two pairs plus a couple of helpers apparently, I was out with Pete Watson on Sunday and we thought we’d go have a look, the weather forecast wasn’t brilliant but at least it wasn’t raining when we got there, just one nest site on view and at least one bird showed regularly if a little distantly throughout the morning, also a Wheatear. Was viewable from Lower Hide.

Monday, 28 July 2014. Sweet Raptors and a second chance tern in Teesside. With nothing much around at the moment within striking distance I had been thinking of trying for the Honey Buzzards. At Wykeham again this last weekend however with a White Rumped Sandpiper. Showing well at Cresswell Ponds in Northumberland and another White Winged Black Tern. Had gone although the Tern. Haven’t been showing very well this year, it was very slow, a couple of Kestrels. And a few common Buzzards. I hung around for a...
cliftonbirding: Showy Sab's and the disappearing acts
http://cliftonbirding.blogspot.com/2015/08/showy-sabs-and-disappearing-acts.html
Sunday, 9 August 2015. Showy Sab's and the disappearing acts. Out with Mark today and we went over to Pennington Flash in Greater Manchester where an adult Sabine’s Gull. Had been found in the week and had been showing well, it was still present this morning and still showing well, a great bird to try out my new camera gear with. After a good session with it we moved on and up to Preston where a first summer Ring Billed Gull. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). In search of Storks. Spotting a rare Crake.
cliftonbirding: April 2015
http://cliftonbirding.blogspot.com/2015_04_01_archive.html
Monday, 27 April 2015. Grizzlies and a day roosting Heron. I was out with Pete Watson today and we decided to do a repeat of the trip we did this time last year to Twyford Woods in South Lincs for the Grizzled Skippers. Then back to Whisby Country Park for Nightingales. Armed with a bit more info on the Butterflies. Into action, they weren’t easy though, very quick and easily lost but we eventually got good views of at least two, we also had the bonus of a Dingy Skipper. Of the year, several Buzzards.

Birdwatching and Photography by Mick and Sylvia Brennan. Thursday, 16 October 2014. The Migration continues slowly. Tuesday went north of the Tees and managed to see Brambling, Goldcrest, and Jack Snipe. Thursday went south of the Tees and managed another Red-breasted Flycatcher, Merlin, Woodcock and the first Redwings of the Autumn, unfortunately the weather was too bad to hang about for the Firecrest at South Gare so hope it hangs around. Birdwatching and Photography by Mick and Sylvia Brennan. Sunday, 30 March 2014. This Greenfinch was very angry when the Redpoll came to the feeders at Saltholme last weekend. Yesterday we had our first Wheatears at Kildale along with lots of Meadow Pipit. It was nice to see the Red Grouse so close to the road and not at all bothered. The Little Owl was sitting out as we passed on our way home which made an excellent end to a lovely day. Links to this post. Thursday, 13 March 2014. Links to this post.

Monday, 31 August 2015. In search of Storks. A few weeks back a handful of immature Black Storks. Then decided on the afternoon at Spurn, the imm Red Backed Shrike. From yesterday remained at Sunnycliff Farm but apart from that it was just common migrants, late afternoon I ended up at Kilnsea Wetlands and with the rising tide there were big numbers of Redshanks. Roosting there plus three Mediterranean Gulls. Dropped in as well. Coming up out of the ditch it landed not too far away. One of the Med Gulls.
