The Nature of Framingham: April 2013
http://natureofframingham.blogspot.com/2013_04_01_archive.html
This Stunning Work of Art Will Delight Birders and Bloggers Alike! This magnificent work of art by the exquisitely talented Susan Fletcher King. Left me speechless with awe! According to the artist, the piece "was started as a whole cloth which has been dyed, painted and stamped. The great blue heron, boat, dock and weeds were then added as rough-edge appliqué. These pieces were also painted. The entire piece was then assembled and stitched (quilted)". How's that for creativity and talent? I cropped the ...

Great Blue Goes Fishing in a Boat! My husband Tom captured this entrancing series of Great Blue Heron photos from the backyard of our cottage in Pocasset, MA. The big fellow climbs right onto the edge of the boat. Evidently, there is something edible inside the little red boat! Did he get anything? I really can't tell! In any case, he decides to give up on this particular fishing trip. He is a spectacular beast, isn't he? Labels: great blue heron. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). My Blog About Dogs! Donald th...
The Nature of Framingham: Goliath Heron! He's a GIANT HERON!
http://natureofframingham.blogspot.com/2013/09/goliath-heron-hes-giant-heron.html
He's a GIANT HERON! This magnificent creature is the largest heron in existence today. We saw this one in Zambia. It is a Goliath Heron, presumably named after the giant named Goliath from the bible, Pete caught sight of this guy, and I'm frankly surprised that my photos came out as well as they did, considering that we were in a boat at the time. Check out that bill! September 23, 2013 at 8:07 AM. Thank you for these photos and story - a great way to start my week! November 4, 2013 at 5:43 AM. Discover ...

backyard critter watch: August 2011

Amateur naturalists discuss the flora and fauna of the San Francisco Bay Area of California, USA. Tuesday, August 16, 2011. A Green Anole on Maui. He has a dewlap or throatfan under his chin that he would open up from time to time. It was bright red or orange in color and would stick out from under his neck by half an inch or so. He wouldn't do this when I had the camera on him, though. But, here is a picture of a gecko with his dewlap out. Some say they escaped from a pet store. Links to this post.
Bird Man of Bridgewater: Migration in New England 2012
http://johnhmitchell.blogspot.com/2012/05/migration-in-new-england-2012.html
Bird Man of Bridgewater. Tuesday, May 29, 2012. Migration in New England 2012. So not alot to say I've been birding like crazy, but overall the migration season seemed pretty lackluster in southeastern New England. I got my fair share of migrants, but the abunance at several hot spots was way down. I had to fight to get several of the standards for spring migration. I did not see a Bay breasted and I still don't have Cerulean Warbler yet either. Errrrr! May 30, 2012 at 10:33 AM. Wow, fantastic variety!
Bird Man of Bridgewater: October 2011

Bird Man of Bridgewater. Friday, October 21, 2011. Yellow Throated Warbler and a few shore birds. I was on the way out the door to work and got an email that a Yellow Throated Warbler had been seen at Sachuest Point in Middletown, Rhode Island. Soooo work.lifer? I decided to look around anyway and fortunately as soon as I got out of my truck. Bam! There it was jumping along the edge of the building. Labels: Yellow Throated Warbler. Bird Man of Bridgewater: Ensley Bottoms Memphis Tennessee
http://johnhmitchell.blogspot.com/2012/04/ensley-bottoms-memphis-tennessee.html
Bird Man of Bridgewater. Saturday, April 21, 2012. Ensley Bottoms Memphis Tennessee. Its already very dry in Memphis so there were a lot of birds congregating in small pools. Great bird, but really a hassle to have around if you are skulking to try to get a photo. They spook before every other bird and then they scare all the other peeps. Errrrr! I missed a really good shot of a Wilson's Snipe because of you Mr. Killdeer. I've got an itch. So you walk around in circles get dizzy and sick to your stomach,...
