8220;Man is nature, just like the trees. Both live and grow”. Services from Nature’s Edge work with nature, not against it. Sustainable practices and quality design mean less money spent on maintenance and more time spent enjoying the garden. This is a service for new homeowners and advice for gardeners who like to do their own. I can spend time with you walking the property to take a plant inventory, point out invasive plants and other problems and suggest alternative planting. Fee: $75.00 per hour.

I will reconnect you to your land by encouraging responsible stewardship, by providing a sense of place, a healthy environment to relax in and a cure for n...

Thursday, January 1, 2015. Fine Hair Moss ( Dicranella heteromalla. The winter garden reveals many secrets. The absence of green leafiness uncovers nests made in warmer times. From my kitchen window I view winter denizens, bird and squirrel, as they come out of shelter to visit the birdfeeder. Mosses stand out along the woodland path. I took a few strands inside and placed them in a saucer of water as an attempt to identify their species. Fine hair moss ( Dicranella heteromalla. Labels: fine hair moss.

Sunday, February 15, 2015. Say No to Winter Blues. Trees and shrubs aid my mood as well. The ailing dogwood tree provides a strategic perch. Its hollows provide shelter and a pounding board for birds to crack open sunflower husks. Bare branches show off the true architecture of a tree and they are also places to monitor the swelling buds of spring. Tree trunks reflect the glow of the setting sun, which I notice goes down later every evening. Labels: Great Backyard Bird Count. Follow me on Facebook.

Sunday, June 23, 2013. Summer. It's about time! Full moon. Summer solstice. It’s about time for blog entry! Wednesday, May 1, 2013. I celebrate this day of fertility rites, workers rights, May queens and maypoles by embracing all that is vernal in my tangled wood and garden: the large bumblebees that roam for nectar; the promise of herbaceous perennial shooting skyward; fiddleheads and knobs of ferns as they too awaken; bird sounds all; dried oak leaves to crumble; spicebush and maple-leaf viburnum defying ivy.
