Idyll Haven: June 2013
http://idyllhaven.blogspot.com/2013_06_01_archive.html
Friday, June 28, 2013. Axe Murderers and Serial Killers-The Prequel. Like it or not, here we come. On Saturday morning we made our way to Grafton, MA. Two members of our group live within walking distance of each other in this quiet former mill town just southeast of Worcester. Little did we know but a full day of activities had been lined up for our garden touring pleasure. First stop: Mapel Plants. Acres of well maintained gardens and beautiful vistas. On July 20th, Brigham Hill Farm. By June the party...

Idyll Haven: November 2013
http://idyllhaven.blogspot.com/2013_11_01_archive.html
Thursday, November 7, 2013. It Was a Good Year. Here in my CT zone 6 garden, the beginning of November typically finds me up to my knees in fallen leaves and frost blackened foliage. All my beloved tropicals have either been tucked into the garage awaiting a move into the house or long departed to the big compost pile in the sky. Don't get me wrong, by most standards garden season had been over for a few weeks. Compared to July this view of my patio looks downright bleak. However, I can't remembe...Someh...

Idyll Haven: February 2013
http://idyllhaven.blogspot.com/2013_02_01_archive.html
Sunday, February 24, 2013. Connecticut Flower and Garden Show. Spring has sprung, at least at the Hartford Convention Center this weekend for the 32nd Annual Connecticut Flower and Garden Show. "Love in Bloom" was the theme this year although it either wasn't always evident as a design element in the displays or I fell down on the job as an observer. Not to worry, it's the thought that counts. When I got home and checked out her website I found out she is also the artist behind the Fanciful Flights.

Idyll Haven: April Bloom Day Arrives Kicking and Screaming
http://idyllhaven.blogspot.com/2015/04/april-bloom-day-arrives-kicking-and.html
Wednesday, April 15, 2015. April Bloom Day Arrives Kicking and Screaming. Wow, what a winter! Persistent cold, snow, ice right through March and into early April. Did I say cold? That being said, the pickens are slim. Even the Hellebores have been reluctant to show their faces. Usually Iris reticulata blooms in Mid March here and is done by now unlike Miss Survivor who appears to be here to stay. Good old 'Arnold Promise' Witch hazel has been blooming since mid March, within a day of last year. Too b...

Idyll Haven: September 2013
http://idyllhaven.blogspot.com/2013_09_01_archive.html
Friday, September 20, 2013. September Bloom Day Sorta Kinda. OK so Bloom Day is old news. But I took the time to take the pictures and edit them so I might as well post them. In the month since I bid farewell to the beach, time has elapsed at warp speed. Shorter days mean less time to keep up with everything. In an effort to get back to some of my former hobbies I recently joined Meetup. Found what appears to be a great group and started hiking again. So much for weekends! Flowers on the Castor Bean!

Idyll Haven: July 2015
http://idyllhaven.blogspot.com/2015_07_01_archive.html
Saturday, July 25, 2015. Dean Koontz, A Big Little Life: A Memoir of a Joyful Dog. One of the first topics we covered was how to create a safe, comforting environment for your puppy at bedtime. Perfect! What I learned about Nick that first night didn't become immediately apparent but it should have. Nick was stubborn. Very stubborn. He didn't give up easily and he knew how to wage campaigns of harassment to his advantage. I will miss that about him. I will miss everything about him. Links to this post.

Idyll Haven: April 2013
http://idyllhaven.blogspot.com/2013_04_01_archive.html
Monday, April 15, 2013. On the bright side, this has been an absolutely fabulous spring for moving plants and I have been taking full advantage. My "list". What few Hellebores I have are looking spiffy. I have them scattered throughout the garden but as I look at pictures of various gardens I can see the why some people mass them in one spot. Another project for another list. Forsythia is not one of my favorite shrubs but this variegated. Forsythia x intermedia 'Fiesta'. To get my fingers into container ...

Idyll Haven: October 2013
http://idyllhaven.blogspot.com/2013_10_01_archive.html
Tuesday, October 15, 2013. October Bloom Day-Most Likely the Last Hurrah. Soon I will begin the dismantling process and the annual leaf removal and garden cleanup. The first curbside pickup in town is the week of November 4th with a second pickup two weeks later. Weekend hiking excursions have become an every weekend event since Labor Day so if I want to get everything done I'm going to have to brush up on my time management skills. But there's still plenty of time for that :). Sowhat's still in bloom?

Idyll Haven: May 2013
http://idyllhaven.blogspot.com/2013_05_01_archive.html
Wednesday, May 22, 2013. Plants in containers spruce up my side entryway in 2012. Part of my container plant staging area. Despite my shortcomings with house plants, I do manage to winter over a few things under lights, in a sunny window or dormant in the basement. Success in this department always brings me great joy. Not only do I save a bit of cash, I'm rewarded with a sense of accomplishment and two year old plants that make nice specimens. In over ten years of fairly extensive container gardening I'...
