Near Disaster on September 21, 2002. The boat went into the water on Friday, August 23rd and motored a couple hundred yards to Slip D1 at Keehi Marina where PDF continued to work on it until Thursday, September 5th when it was released and we motored back to Ko Olina Marina. Good practice requires that the alignment of the coupling be checked after the boat has been in the water for awhile (the hull changes shape), but this was not done.

The following are comments by crew member George Neill (e-mailed home while in route) on the 1998 Pacific Cup race. From San Francisco to Kaneohe Bay, Oahu. This race is a 2,047 nautical mile trip. He was crew with five others on the Standfast 40 "Cirrus". We started from San Francisco on June 29 and finished on July 11. Twelve great full days of nothing but eat, sleep, and sail. Life doesn't get much better. After the party they flew the spinnaker in my honor but took it down to get back on course.
